The View from the Green Over the Tee Cup The weather was partly cloudy with mild wind for the 20 women who teed off for the ladies’ play day at Willow Creek Country Club on Tuesday, May 24. Taking low gross of the ield was Nancy Propheter. Low net went to Judy Har- ris and Loa Heideman had least putts. For Flight A, Pat Ed- mundson had low gross, Tiffany Clement low net and longest putt, Virginia Grant least putts, and Loa Heideman the long drive. Elvin Leland Britt Elvin Leland Britt, 85, of Pendleton, died Wednes- day, May 25, 2016 at Pend- leton. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at the Hep- pner Masonic Cemetery in Heppner. He was born November 13, 1930 at Fossil, OR, the son of Walter M. and Alta Wilson Britt. Elvin lived around the Spray area while growing up. He attended the Spray school, where he played basketball and baseball. On April 1, 1949 he married Carolyn Mae Kel- say at Goldendale, WA. The couple were parents of four children. Elvin worked several years for Hudspeth Pine sawmill at Spray, greas- ing trucks, pulling green chain, and driving lumber truck. He bought his irst log truck in 1952 and sold it in 1954. He went back to work for Hudspeth Pine again for four years hauling logs in Prineville, OR. He then went back to Spray, working on his dad’s ranch from 1958-1962. He then bought a farm at Metolius, OR near Madras, OR in 1962. He worked on build- ing the Round Butte Dam, driving truck. The fam- ily then moved to Heppner in 1964 and formed Britt Brothers Corporation with his brother Armond Britt, where they hauled lum- ber, chips and logs to local mills in the area. In 1970 they moved Britt Brothers Corp. to Pilot Rock, where Guest speaker at grief support group this week The local grief support group will meet this Thursday, June 2, at noon at Sweet Productions in Heppner. Di Salvo is the home health and hospice chaplain at Pioneer Memorial and holds a doctorate in leadership studies, which includes expertise in stress management. He will share both his personal and professional experi- ences with the group. Odd Fellows perform cemetery clean-up On a beautiful May afternoon and evening, 10 members of Willow Lodge #66 of the I.O.O.F. (Hep- pner Odd Fellows) met at the Hardman Cemetery to perform their annual Me- morial Day clean-up chore. Lawn mowers, weed- eaters and a small tractor buzzed for several hours while the volunteers went about mowing, trimming and cleaning the grounds of the historic cemetery. each of us has a responsibil- ity in helping these children reach their full potential. While Bob touched the lives of many, he did not need to be recognized for his contributions, in- stead preferring to do things quietly or anonymously. Although his physical pres- ence will be missed, his focus on the community, sense of integrity, humble attitude and kindness con- tinue to live on within his surviving family members. Bob was also a man of great faith and active in the local Catholic church. This faith allowed for a peaceful passing and a sense of joy in being reunited with his mother.
