the Les Schwab Shoot-Out
Tournament by defeating
the Enterprise Outlaws in
the championship game
by the score of 65-34. The
tournament was held at the
Pendleton Convention Cen-
ter on Dec. 28-29. On the
irst day of the tournament,
Heppner beat the Pendleton
junior varsity team 56-43
to reach the championship
game.
Against the JV Bucka-
roos, Heppner came out fast
and scored early and often.
The Mustangs took advan-
tage of their size in the post
and scored many points in
the paint. Heppner led the
game after one quarter 16-
7. They continued their fast
pace and terrific defense
in the second quarter and
were ahead at the half 34-
17. Everyone on the team
got minutes in the second
half and did well. Heppner
won the game by a score
of 56-43.
Patrick Collins led the
team with 20 points and
10 rebounds. CJ Kindle
was next with 9 points,
4 rebounds, 4 assists and

half. Heppner led 14-10
after one quarter and 25-21
at halftime. It was the third
quarter that the game really
changed. The Mustang got
their running game go-
ing and scored many easy
baskets. They also turned
up the defensive pressure
and took control of both
ends of the court. Heppner
outscored Enterprise 22-5
in the third quarter and 18-8
in the fourth to get the win
by a score of 65-34.
Collins once again in-

Heppner girls end
2015 on low note
Heppner’s Kacie Gray dodges some Bulldogs last week in
Pendleton. The Heppner girls’ basketball team ended 2015 on
a disappointing note when it took twin losses at the Les Schwab
Shoot-Out Tournament in Pendleton last week. They irst lost
to Hermiston JV 31-41 on Monday and then were shot down
by Enterprise 26-45 on Tuesday. They pick up in the new year
with their irst league game of the season at Irrigon Friday.

an assist. Murray scored 2
points and had 5 rebounds
and 1 assist. Currin and
Wyatt Steagall each pitched
in a rebound and an assist
while Tommy Bredfield
inished with a steal.
With the wins at the
quarter ended with the Mus-
tangs leading 18-14. Shoot-
ing in the Moda Center was
certainly different for the
team, as the building is so
big. They had to play with
the NBA three-point line
and the wider key area. It
didn’t seem to bother the
Mustangs too much during
the game. Heppner out-
scored the Huskies in the
second quarter and led at
halftime 35-28.
Sherman County got
the best of the Mustangs in
the third quarter 12-10, but
Heppner still led the game
45-40. The Huskies did hit
a couple of threes and take
a brief lead in the fourth
quarter of the game. Hep-
pner fought back and then
made six clutch free-throws
in the last minute of the
game. Both teams scored
15 points in the quarter and
Heppner came away with
the win 60-55.
Patrick Collins grabbed
another double-double to
lead the way with a team-
high 19 points and 11 re-
bounds. He also had 2 as-
sists in the game. Weston

season record to 9-1.
The Mustangs inished
up their pre-season sched-
ule with a win over the
Sherman County Huskies
by a score of 60-55 last
Wednesday. The game was
held at the Moda Center,
home of the NBA’s Portland
Trailblazers. Over 150 Hep-
pner fans attended the game
to cheer their Mustangs
on. The game was held be-
fore the Trailblazers game
with the Denver Nuggets.
Almost everyone stayed
for that game, as well, and
most of the Heppner fans
were able to sit together in
in special sections. It was
a tremendous experience
for the Heppner fans and
the boys on the team, and
something they will surely
never forget.
These two teams had
already played once this
season, with the Mustangs
getting the victory by 10
points. This game, between
two quality teams, was
close throughout. The irst
Putman also secured a
double-double with 12
points and 10 rebounds.
Putman also had an assist
and 1 steal. CJ Kindle had
a good all-around game
and inished with 11 points,
2 rebounds, 4 assists and
2 steals. Caden Hedman
played some tremendous
defense and inished with
6 points and 2 assists. Lo-
gan Grieb netted 5 points
and had 1 rebound while
Jake Lindsay had 4 points
and 2 assists for the Mus-
tangs. Kaden Clark and
Kevin Murray each scored
2 points in the game. Tom-
my Bredfield and Kolby
Currin each had a rebound
in the game. Kevin Smith
and Wyatt Steagall also
played in the game.

their pre-season schedule
with a record of 10-1. They
begin conference play this
weekend when they travel
to Irrigon on Friday night
to play the Knights. They
will then host the Stanield
Tigers on Saturday.
