At their Dec. 1 council
meeting, Boardman City
Councilors held a hearing
to consider a ban on medi-
cal marijuana within the
city limits.
No one at the hearing
spoke in opposition of the
proposed ban.
With a vote of 7-0, the
city council declared an
emergency and voted to ban
medical marijuana produc-
ers, medical marijuana pro-
cessors, medical marijuana
wholesalers, and medical
marijuana retailers within
the city limits of Boardman,
effective immediately.
In November, the city
council passed a similar or-
dinance to ban recreational
marijuana.
In other city business,
councilors heard a presenta-
tion from Sam Boardman
Elementary School Prin-
cipal Sarah Kimmell. She
spoke about a new after-

A Philomath man lost
his life in a single vehicle
crash near Boardman last
week.
On Dec. 4 around 6:30
a.m., Morrow County Sher-
iff’s Ofice, Oregon State
Police troopers and other
emergency personnel re-
sponded to the report of a
single-vehicle crash on I-84
near milepost 154 west of
Boardman.
When they arrived,
emergency crews found
a 1985 Chevrolet pickup
fully engulfed in ire.
After the ire was extin-
guished, Keith O. Carney,
34, of Philomath, OR, was
found deceased inside.
OSP says preliminary
information indicates the
Chevrolet was traveling
eastbound on I-84 when
it left the roadway for un-
known reasons and traveled
for more than 400 feet.
The pickup then struck
a large boulder, where it
caught ire.
OSP led the investiga-
tion and was assisted at the
scene by MCSO, Boardman
fire and ambulance, and
the Oregon Department of
Transportation.
