The Heppner Mustang
football team continued its
winning ways with a 48-16
win over the Enterprise
Outlaws last Friday night.
The win brings their non-
league record to 3-0 on the
season.
Against the Outlaws,
Heppner scored the first
four times they touched the
ball. Their first touchdown
came when quarterback
Kaden Clark threw the
ball over the outstretched
arms of an Outlaw defend-
er to Logan Grieb for a
39-yard touchdown play.
Grieb kicked the PAT and
the score was 7-0 just four
minutes into the game.
The dominating Hep-
pner defense forced an
Outlaw punt that gave the
Mustangs good field posi-
tion near midfield. Only
four plays later, Clark found
Weston Putman open and
they connected on a 31-yard
touchdown pass play. The
Grieb kick was good and
that made the score 14-0.
Another Outlaw punt
gave the Mustangs good
field position again. Two
big running plays by CJ
Kindle, one that gained 21
yards and one that gained
27 yards, led to a one-yard
touchdown run by Clark.
The PAT kick by Grieb was
good again and Heppner
led 21-0 as the first quarter
ended.
Early in the second
quarter, the Heppner de-
fense forced Enterprise to
punt. Only two plays later
the Mustangs scored again.
It was another Clark to Put-
man pass play that covered
45 yards. That touchdown
made the score 27-0.
On the next Enterprise
possession, Patrick Collins
intercepted an Outlaw pass
and rumbled 28 yards for
a touchdown to give Hep-
pner a 33-0 lead. Then, on
the very next Outlaw pos-
session, Putman stepped
in front of a pass and in-
tercepted it. He carried it
in from 26 yards out for
another score. Clark ran
the ball in for the two-point
conversion to make the
score 41-0 with a little over
nine minutes to go in the
second quarter. The teams
then traded possessions.
Heppner got the ball
back near midfield after an-
other Enterprise punt. Two
plays later, Kindle scored
when he ran the ball down
the sideline 39 yards for
the touchdown. The Grieb
PAT kick was good and
the Heppner lead was now
48-0. The Mustangs did get
the ball back later, but Clark
took a knee to end the half
with Heppner leading 48-0.
The second half would
be played with a running
clock as Heppner was ahead
by more than 45 points. At
this point in the game the
Heppner coaches worked
in many of the younger
Mustang players. Every-
one got to play in the game
and most of the starters
sat out the entire second
half. The team was able to
stretch out a couple long
drives in the half, one of
seven plays and one of 13,
but they could not score.
Quarterback Kevin Smith
398 yards of total offense
in the game and they held
Enterprise to 144.
Clark ended the night
4-7 passing for 136 yards
and three touchdowns.

ran the team, and Ryan
Smith, Jake Lindsay, Kaden
Corbin, Coby Dougherty
and Hunter Nichols ran the
ball well. Enterprise scored
twice in the half to make the
final score 48-16.
For the game, Heppner
finished with 15 first downs
to five for the Outlaws. The
strong and talented offen-
sive line helped the Mus-
tangs rush for 252 yards
on the night. Heppner had
intercepted. Putman caught
two passes for 76 yards and
two touchdowns. Grieb had
one reception for 39 yards
and a touchdown on the
night. Ryan Smith caught
one ball for seven yards
and Kindle caught one for
21 yards. Nichols had one
reception for the team that
went for three yards.
Many players ran the
ball in the game for Hep-
pner. Kindle led the team
with four carries for 90
yards. Corbin was next with
six carries for 39 yards and
Nichols ran it one time for
31 yards. Clark finished
with three carries for 29
yards and Grieb rushed it
two times for 24. Tommy
Bredfield finished with four
carries for 16 yards and
Kevin Smith ran the ball
two times for 15. Dough-
erty was a workhorse in the
second half as he carried the
ball six times for 13 yards.
Lindsay and Zach Bredfield
each got one carry on the
night and both gained one
yard for the team.
The Mustang defense
was led in tackles by Tom-
my Bredfield with seven.
Collins was next with six
and Kevin Murray had five.
Tim Jaca finished with four
tackles and Putman, Saul
Erickson and Wyatt Stea-
gall had three each. Grieb
finished with two tackles
in the game. With one tack-
le each in the game were
Kindle, Lindsay, Corbin
and Nichols. Many other
Mustang players finished
with an assist on many of
the tackles in the game.
The next game for the
Heppner team is at home
this Friday night against
Tri-City Prep. The Home-
coming game is scheduled
for 7 p.m. at Les Payne
Field.

Senior, eighth-grade
conferences next week
The Heppner Mustang
Junior Varsity football team
traveled to Boardman Mon-
day and beat the Riverside
Pirates by a score of 36-14.
It was the first game of the
season for the JV Mustangs.
Heppner kicked off
to start the game and they
quickly forced a Pirate
fumble. Derek Howard
recovered the ball to give
the Mustangs good field
position. Solid running
plays that ate up big chunks
of yardage led to the first
Mustang touchdown.
Quarterback Kevin
Smith hit Beau Wolters
with a pass over the middle
to score from 19 yards out.
Smith then connected with
Wolters again on the two-
point conversion and that
made the score 8-0. The
next time the Mustangs got
the ball, Kaden Corbin took
the handoff and outraced
the entire Pirate team down
the right sideline for a 69-
yard touchdown. That made
the score 14-0 at the end of
the first quarter.
The Heppner defense
forced Riverside to punt
again. It did not take long
for the high-powered Mus-
tang offense to score again.
A four-play drive ended
when Smith completed a
pass to Wolters for a 37-
yard touchdown. That made
the score of the game 20-0
in favor of the Mustangs.
Once again the Hep-
pner defense forced an-
other Pirate punt. After a

“As a parent of an
eighth-grade student, I
highly recommend every
parent attend to familiarize
themselves with the paper-

are experiencing,” said
head teacher Greg Grant.
“This is something every
student and parent needs to
