Business Card Printing PUBLIC NOTICE Morrow County School District to hold community meetings Morrow County School District is holding a com- munity-wide meeting this Thursday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Heppner El- ementary cafeteria to report progress and seek input on long-range planning. The school district has announced that it is creat- ing a long-term investment plan for each of the county’s school buildings. The meet- ing in Heppner is one of a series of community meet- ings throughout the county that to seek the input of the community and share progress reports. Community members are encouraged to attend the informational meeting and exchange ideas with the school district. DA’s Report Morrow County Dis- trict Attorney Justin Nelson has released the following report: -Travis Lane Thomas, 43, was convicted of Men- acing – Constituting Do- mestic Violence, a Class A Misdemeanor, and sen- tenced to 180 days jail time. Of that sentence, 160 days jail time was suspended and the defendant sentenced to 24 months bench probation, to include 40 hours of com- munity service, no contact with the victim, 20 days jail time with credit for time served, and evaluation and recommended treatment for substance abuse and anger management. Additionally, the defendant was convict- ed of Harassment - Consti- tuting Domestic Violence, a Class B Misdemeanor; the sentence of 90 days jail time was suspended and the defendant sentenced to 24 months bench probation, to include 20 hours of commu- nity service, no contact with the victim, and evaluation and recommended treat- ment for substance abuse and anger management. Fines, fees and assessments totaled $300. - Travis Lane Thomas, 43, was convicted of Crimi- nal Mischief II, A Class C Misdemeanor; sentence of 15 days jail time was sus- pended and the defendant sentenced to 24 months bench probation, to include 20 hours of community service. Fines, fees and as- sessments totaled $100. -James Robert Martin, 25, was convicted of Bur- glary II, a Class C Felony, and sentenced to 18 months prison time with credit for time served, with one year post-prison supervision. Fines, fees and assessments totaled $200. -Robert Lynn Sargent, 47, was convicted of At- tempt to Commit a Class B Felony – Sexual Abuse I, A Class C Felony, and sentenced to 18 months prison time with credit for time served, as well as five years post-prison supervi- sion, to include sex of- fender follow-up treatment, no form of contact with the victim, and a letter of apology to the victim. Ad- ditional counts of Unlawful Sexual Penetration I and Sexual Abuse I were dis- posed without conviction. Fines, fees and assessments totaled $200. Justice Court Report Morrow County Justice of the Peace Ann Spicer has released the following Justice Court report: -Jeani Elyse Marlatt, 28, of Lexington was found guilty by default of Violat- ing the Basic Rule 73/55 and was fined $160. -Deborah Lavonne Ev- ans, 52, of Heppner was found guilty by default of Driving While Suspended (DWS) and fined $435. -Eric A. King of Cave Junction, OR was found guilty by default of DWS – Violation and was fined $435. -Justin Lee Matteson, 36, of Heppner was found guilty by default of DWS – Violation and was fined $435. -Barbara L. Ione to hold 1,000-yard shoot The Ione 1,000 Yard Shoot will be Saturday, May 2, at Halvorsen Farm outside of Ione. Registra- tion will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the event will start at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20, which allows individuals one shot at a gong the size of a 27” TV. Shooters may purchase additional shots for $20 per shot. Permits are available at all Umatilla National Forest Offices and at several local vendors. Firewood permits can be purchased for $5 per cord with a minimum pur- chase of four cords for $20. The maximum limit for per- sonal-use firewood on the Umatilla National Forest is 12-cords-per-household- per-year. Vendors will sell fire- wood permits in four-cord packets. An additional ven- dor fee, up to $2, will be charged for each four-cord, $20 firewood permit you purchase at a local vendor. Most vendors are open ear- ly mornings, late evenings and on the weekends. An additional fee is not charged if you purchase a permit at a Forest Service Office. Firewood cutters will be required to keep a record of the date, time and quan- tity of firewood removed from the National Forest System lands. Additional information can be found in the Firewood Guide that accompanies each permit. Mountain travel will require extreme care to avoid getting stuck or caus- ing extensive and illegal resource damage to the land and vegetation. Firewood cutters are required to carry an axe, a shovel, an eight- ounce capacity or larger fire extinguisher, and have their chainsaw equipped with an approved spark arrester when cutting wood. As we move into the hot, dry summer months, Public Use Restrictions (PURs) may be imple- mented. Restrictions will be announced by 6 p.m. on the day prior to the restriction(s) going into ef- fect. Weekend restrictions will be announced by 6 p.m. on Friday. Updated PURs will be posted on a recorded message at 1-877-958-9663 and on the forest’s website. It is the public’s responsi- bility to check if firewood cutting is allowed, restrict- ed to specific hours of the day, or prohibited.
