Ione team continues to blossom at Hood
River meet

The Ione track team
travelled to Hood River last
Friday to participate in the
Apple Blossom Invitation-
al. Ione took 13 athletes,
six men and seven women.
Women placed eighth of 13
while men placed 13 th .
A benchmark was set
by David Smidmajer with
a 98’7”in javelin. A season
best mark was set by Hector
Aguilar; he ran his fastest
200M this season at 29.77a.
Smidmajer also tied
his personal record (PR) in
the 100M at 13.35a, while
five more athletes also set
PRs as follows: TJ Patton,
5:11.19a – 1500M; Hector
Aguilar, 94’10” – Javelin;
Tyson Epperson, 13’5.25”
–long jump; Jessie Flynn,
13.43a – 100M; and Rachel
Holland, 1:06.62a – 400M.
Placing at the meet
were: 2 nd , Jessie Flynn in
long jump (8 team points);
4 th , Rachel Holland in jav-

J. Flynn in 100M (4 team

Ione coaches say the
team is seeing improve-
ment throughout the team.
The athletes are working on
competitiveness, condition-
ing and getting prepared for
district competition in four
weeks.
This week the Cardi-
nals compete in Condon at
11 a.m. on Saturday, April
25.

Ione kindergarten,
preschool hold
visitation day
Ione Community
School will hold a kinder-
garten visitation and en-
rollment day May 20 from
9:30-11 a.m. Children will
visit the kindergarten class-
room and experience what
their days will be like next
year. Children also are wel-
come to eat lunch and stay
for recess; cost of school
lunch is $2.10. Parents can
pick their children up at
noon if they stay for recess.
Children must be five
years old by Sept. 1 to en-
roll in kindergarten. Parents
are asked to bring each
child’s immunization re-
cords, birth certificate and
Social Security card.
Also on May 20, Cre-
ative Care Preschool will
hold a visitation day from
10-11:30 a.m. Activities
and snacks will be pro-
vided.
Incoming preschool
students must be three to
four years old by Sept. 1.
Parents are asked to bring
each child’s immunization
records and birth certificate.

of Oz” this Friday, April 24,

location checking a cat trap.
-MCSO received report
of a suspicious vehicle in
the Irrigon area driving by
the caller’s residence very
slow. MCSO responded and
advised subjects of their
options and told them to

passing on their property
or if anything suspicious
occurred.

from an Irrigon woman who
said there was construction
going on across from her
residence, has seen vehicles
going up and down the
street and would like extra
patrol.
