Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April 8, 2015 Cardinals fly high during pre-Easter meets The Ione Cardinals at- tended two meets last week, the 80 th annual McLoughlin High School Carnival of Speed on Friday, April 3, and the Sherman County Invitational on Saturday, April 4. The school took 15 ath- letes to the Mac-Hi meet and came home with 13 personal records (PRs), five bench- marks and two season best (SB) performances. Ione girls placed 12 th of 20 teams. Plac- ing were Rachel Holland, 4 th in 400M and 6 th in javelin, scoring 8pts; Jessie Flynn, who tied in three-way for 8 th in high jump as well as taking 3 rd in long jump and 4 th in 300M hurdles, scoring 11.33 pts. Ann Rietmann set a season best in the 800M at 3:01.37a. PRs were: Maggie Flynn in 100M at 15.28a, Rachel Holland in 200M at 29.81a, Kaitlin Garrett in shot put at 25’ 5.5”and in discus at 71’9”, Sonia Medina in discus at 52’7”, Frances Knop in discus at 40’10” and Emily Taylor in javelin at 56’7”. Setting a benchmark in the 400M was Ann Rietmann at 1:20.98a. The boys didn’t score but set multiple benchmarks for new events and many PRs and an SB. Benchmarks were Tyson Epperson in 100M at 15.43a, TJ Patton in shot put at 31’ 6.25”, Karsen Dumler in dis- cus at 63’4” and Chris Pryor in javelin at 42’7”. PR’s were: Tyson Epper- son in javelin 74’5”, TJ Patton in discus at 80’2” and 1500M at 5:16.15a, Karsen Dumler in shot put at 26’11.75”, Henry Padberg in 100M at 12.77a and in 200M at 27.40a. Season best was Hector Aguilar in the 100M at 14.31a. The team also took 15 athletes to the Sherman Coun- ty Invitational on Saturday, where the women placed 8 th with 37 points, while men placed 11 th with 15 points. Season best was: Ann Rietmann, 800M, 2:57.94a. Benchmarks were: TJ Patton, 800M, 2:34.24a, and the 4x100M relay, placing 4 th with Jorge Aguilar, David Smidmajer, Hector Aguilar and Henry Padberg with a time of 52.13a. PRs were: Tyson Epper- son, 100M, 14.98a; Henry Padberg, 200M, 27.18a; Karsen Dumler, shot put, 27’8”; David Smidmajer, dis- cus, 79’10”; Rachel Holland, 100M, 14.19a; Emily Taylor, 100M, 16.30a; Kaitlin Garrett, discus, 72’8”; Sonia Medina, discus, 58’2”; Rachel Holland, javelin, 105’9”; Emily Taylor, javelin, 57’1”. Three-on-three basketball to raise funds for Ione juniors The Ione High School junior class will hold a three-on-three basketball competition fundraiser on Thursday, April 9, begin- ning at 5 p.m. Cost to enter is $12 per team; all entry forms and liability releases must be received by April 8 at 3:30 p.m. at the latest. The members will com- pete in knowledge bowl questions, horse health, judging and presentations. They will also get to meet a lot of other 4-H members from different counties.
