The team entered as the third seed and finished the tournament in third place. Heppner did win both of their matches on Friday, which allowed them to play for the conference title. They lost that match to the Culver Bulldogs, who were then named the CBC champions. The Mustangs then had to turn around and play the Weston-McEwen TigerScots for the second state playoff berth. Heppner had beaten the TigerScots 3-2 the day before, but lost to them in this match 3-0. Heppner started tour nament play with the Irri- gon Knights and won that match 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13). Heppner served 62-69. Paige Grieb went 15-15 with three aces. So phie Grant was also perfect by going 10-10 and Rylee Wagoner was 5-5. Kelly W ilson led the team in assists with 11 and Grant recorded nine. M organ Correa had nine kills and Wilson followed with five. Jessica Kempkin finished seven, M addie Lindsay and Grieb had two each. Wilson had three blocks, and Kempkin and Kaelyn Lindsay recorded two each. Grieb led the team in digs w ith 23. Lindsay had 19 and Wilson nine. The M ustangs then played the Weston-McE- wen TigerScots. Heppner won the match 3-2 (25-22, 10-25. 25-20, 23-25, 15- 6). This was an exciting match that went back and forth all afternoon iong. With the win, Heppner then got to play for the confer ence championship. For the match Heppner served 84- 92. Grant led the team in assists with 20, while Wilson added 11. Lindsay had 14 kills and Wilson 10. Kempkin had nine big kills and Correa finished with eight. Grieb once again led the team in digs with 56. Correa was next with 30 and Wilson had 23. Lindsay followed with 19 and Grant had 14. Kempkin had 10 blocks in the match. On Saturday the Mus tangs played the powerful Culver Bulldogs for the conference title. Heppner lost that match 3-0 (19-25, 17-25,6-25). The Mustangs served 40-43. Lindsay and Grant both finished 8-8. Wilson went 6-6 and Grieb 8-9. Wilson had 14 assists in the match and Grant eight. Lindsay hit nine balls for kills and Kempkin fol lowed with five. Correa scored four and Wilson three. Grieb led the team in digs with 31 and Lindsay followed with 28. Onna De- Loach was next with 15 and Wilson had 12. Kempkin had three blocks, Wilson and Correa had two each. With the loss, the Mustangs then had to play Weston- McEwen for the second state playoff berth. It was another close match with the TigerScots. Heppner ended up losing it 3-0 (24-26, 23-25, 21-25). All three sets were close until the very end. In the first set the score was tied at 24-24. In the second and third sets the teams were tied 23-23. Weston- McEwen was able to get the win on this day. The Mustangs served 57-64. Correa went 13-13, Grant 9-9 and Grieb 6-6 with two aces. Wilson had 12 assists and Grant finished with 10. Kaelyn Lindsay had two in the match. Maddie Lindsay had 25 and DeLoach 24. Wilson finished with 17. Kempkin recorded six blocks in the match. Wilson and Correa had three each. The Mustangs finished their season with a 17-10 record overall and were 6-4 in conference play. They are ranked 16,h out of the 43 teams in the state that play 2A vollevball. This honor is voted on by the coaches and is for play throughout the entire conference season. Selected to the honorable mention team was ju nior Jessica kempkin. Honored as a second team selection was senior Paige Grieb. First team selections were seniors kelly Wilson and Maddie Lindsay. The hard work and efTort put in bv the three senior players .for the last four years was rewarded with a great overall season by the team, and also by individual recognition for their outstanding play. The city has garbage vouchers available, with a $50 limit, to residents of the City of Boardman.
