I H e pp ner G aze tte-T im es, H eppner, O re g o n Wednesday, Septem ber 1 0 ,201 4 - T H R E E Athena resident receives Toastmaster Excellence in M arketing Award Editor s note: Jim Mar quardt, son o f Betty Mar quardt. is originally from the Lexington area Athena, O re.— Jim Marquardt, Peace Officer/ Inspector at OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commis sion) was honored at a Hall of Fame ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 21, during the Toastmasters Interna tional Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was accompanied by his wife, Darlene Marquardt, the Toastmasters District 9 Public Relations Officer and other District officers and the Regional Advisor. Marquardt led his team to meet and exceed its membership and club goals, truly exemplifying the Toastmaster Interna tional brand and mission. This goal was realized by the District becom ing a “Distinguished” district for the first time since 2010. Marquardt, a Toastmas ters member since 2007, advanced through a Toast masters leadership progres sion that included serving in club-officer roles, then Governor of a group o f four Toastmasters clubs, known as an “Area,” followed by Governor of a “Division,” a group o f 16 clubs, and then Lieutenant Governor Marketing for District 9. He currently holds the position o f Lieutenant Governor Education and Training. “My goal is to con tinue serve District 9,” Mar- quardt says, “and provide our leaders with the skills and resources they need to be successful leaders as they serve their clubs and communities. It was a great honor to be recognized for this accomplishment and I have to give the credit to the members and the clubs in this district, for without their effort 1 would not have received this award.” The International Presi dent, George Yen quotes, “The international network o f T oastm asters clu b s must continually expand; membership growth, club growth, and an increased focu s on d istin gu ish ed clubs are all key factors in making our organiza tion reach its mission of empowering individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
