Lexington and lived there until they retired and moved to Salem in 1975. F a y e w as a v e ry likable, friendly woman and was very much into doing for others; she served in many community boards and did volunteer work in Heppner and in Salem, her last service being in Salem at Meals on Wheels for six years, and Plantation (now Evergreen) Care Center for 10 years. She was a member of Holly Rebekah Lodge and the Degree o f Honor Protective Assn. She had been a member of the First Christian Church for 40 years. She had a deep and abiding love in her belief and in the Lord. Her husband Vernon, her parents, and five sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter. Marilyn Ross of Salem; a grandson; two granddaughters; three great- granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters. Caden was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton; he weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20-1/4 inches long. Grandparents are David and Patti Allstott of Heppner, Tami Johlke of Pendleton, and the late Mike Johlke. Great-grandparents are Clyde and Jackie Allstott of Heppner. Leonard and Patti Toll of Prineville, and the late John and Rene Ledbetter of Heppner. Haydn Oliver Palm er—Jennifer and Jason Palmer of Heppner announce the birth of a son, Haydn Oliver Palmer. Haydn was bom March 28. 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in P e n d le to n . He weighed 10 pounds, 2 ounces and was 22 inches long. Haydn is the grandson of Shirley Haydn Oliver Palmer Palmer and the late R o g er P a lm e r o f Heppner, and the grandson o f JoAnn and Loren Christenson of lmbler. Haydn has three older sisters, Hannah, 11, Madison, 8. and Rylee. 6. Moebius poetry workshop set in lone for April 11 What goes on and on forever? A moebius. N am ed for A u g u st F erd in an d M obius, an early 19,h-century German m a t h e m a t i c i a n , the moebius is a continuous one-sided surface that has been formed into a loop from a rectangular strip by rotating one end 180° and attaching it to the other end. Writers of all ages and levels are invited to attend a Moebius Poetry Workshop, set for Friday. April 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the lone Public Library. Led by Jack Lorts, published poet and mayor o f Fossil, attendees will write their own moebius poems and then mount them Sunday men’s play results T w e n ty -th re e men enjoyed golf in cool, breezy c o n d itio n s on Sunday, March 30. at Willow Creek Country Club. Holly Rebekah card party Saturday Holly Rebekah Lodge will host its monthly card party on April 5 at the lodge hall in Lexington. Play will start at 7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend. The cost to play is $5 per person for an evening of fun, food and lots o f visiting. on a canvas moebius strip, therefore combining written and tangible art forms. These poems have no beginning and no end, such as the following: “ ...burgeoning diam onds slip sile n tly into the soft romance of darkness, falling lightly in summer rain, like eaglets eager to traverse waves of air, delighting as...” The workshop is free, although small donations toward moebius materials are welcome. Humphreys, 58, of Lexington, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at her home. She was born October 23, 1955 at Roseburg, OR. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Lexington Community Church in Lexington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland, 2901 SE 122nd, Portland, OR 97236. A complete obituary will follow in next week’s Gazette-Times. First Friday Friends of Jesus this week The April session of First Friday Friends of Jesus will be held this Friday, April 4, from 8 a.m. to noon at All Saints Episcopal Church. Children ages four through 12 are invited to come and hear the stories of Holy Week and Easter, enjoy songs, crafts, and games related to that theme, and finish up the morning with a free lunch. The meeting will start at 6:45 a.m. and will be followed by first Friday Mass at 7:30 a.m. Community lunch menu Heppner United Methodist Church members will serve lunch on Wednesday, April 9, at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. The meal will include pork chops, hot German potato salad, red cabbage, sliced tomatoes, hot rolls and pie. Milk is served at each meal. Suggested donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change.
