Eleven young men, all from Heppner, participated in the flag cerem ony. Jeremiah Petzoldt led the proceeding. Ryan Cecil carried and posted the Oregon State llag and Ryan Smith carried and posted the United States flag. Other members of the color guard included Antonio Matthew, Angel Matthew, Leo Waite, Justice Petzoldt, Elijah Grigg, Sam Grigg, Jimmy Adams and David Adams. Also accompanying the troop were Dieter Waite, Isaac G rigg and Dan Grigg. The Scout Troop is sponsored by the Willow Creek Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. While at the Capitol the Boy Scouts were hosted by Rep. Greg Smith. Prior to the session, Smith spent time with the boys on the House floor, explaining how the process works when they are in session and answering questions. Smith introduced each individual by name to the members of the House so that it would be part of state record. The young men were then allowed to stay and listen to several bills being debated and voted on. Smith also provided them with a tour of the Capitol and treated them to lunch. “Only a few scout troops per year are allowed to participate in legislative sessions each year. It's a great honor for these young men to have this opportunity” said Smith. An important part of the Boy Scout program is to become good citizens in the community, state and nation and to learn how government works and functions. “ What an incredible e x p e rie n c e fo r th e se young men to be able to see the state legislative process first-hand and to gain an appreciation for the hard work and effort our representatives do on our behalf,” said Dan Grigg, one of the young men’s leaders. “We are so grateful to Rep. Smith for hosting our troop and for his kindness and generosity throughout the day. We are fortunate to have such a great man representing our district.” SEAL BOOK, MOVIES -Continuedfrom PAGE ONE definitive work on the lead- came out the last week in February, is written from “a lot of new research, a lot of new interviews with people,” McEwen says. Highlights of the book include stories about the mission to kill Osama bin Laden and the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi. * “(It's) essentially about a series of things, including some inside stories that have never been reported,” says McEwen. “(Some) very good info on the creation of SEAL Team 6. In-depth analysis of what took place in Benghazi.” For M cEw en, the project was more than abstract observation. “A friend of mine, Ty Woods, was one of the Navy SEALs that was killed in Benghazi. I really wanted to do a book that described the unwillingness of the administration to move assets forward that were available, as described in our book, to save the two Navy SEALS that were killed in Benghazi, Ty Woods and Glen Doherty,” McEwen says, referring to the ex-SEALS who were working as independent contractors with the CIA in Libya when they were killed together on the rooftop of a CIA annex in Benghazi on Sept. 11,2012. “Ty Woods was a friend of mine. I take it personally when my friends are killed.” Personal connection or not, McEwen also said he is inspired by the real-life stories that make history. “I’m always a historian at the end of the day. My true passion is history, so I hope to always be involved in accurate historical works such as this,” he says. “I think it’s probably going to be recognized as one of the REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR T r u c k in g S e r v i c e s Contractor Morrow County Public Works Projects - Morrow County, Oregon Morrow County, Oregon, requests proposals for a qualified Trucking Services C ontractor to provide regular hauling and trucking services for various County G eneral Public Works projects. Also upcoming for McEwen is his second novel, “Target America,” the sequel to “Sniper Elite.” The novel is slated to be released in June of this year. “I’m excited about that to o ,” says McEwen. “ I think ‘Target America’ is gonna take the characters we established in the first book to a new level.” McEwen also said p u b lish e r Sim on and Schuster has ordered a third book in the series. “That’s always good for an author, because it’s a sign that what you’re doing is good and that the publisher likes it,” he adds. Spielberg is out; Eastwood is in M cEw en said the “Sniper Elite” movie project is still in the hands of the people at Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions. Scott has turned out modem classic action films like Alien, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. However, the “Sniper Elite” project has been sidelined while the production company focuses on other projects. Not so the “American Sniper” project spearheaded by actor Bradley Cooper, who will also star in the film. “ I'm excited to get involved in that. Bradley is getting himself in SEAL Team shape and he’s ready to roll,” says McEwen. Spielberg, who had been slated to direct, is off the project, but he’s been replaced by another Hollywood heavy-hitter, Clint Eastwood. “I’m really happy about it. I think Clint Eastwood is the absolute perfect director for that project, in my opinion,” McEwen says. “Eastwood was always our first choice. I could not be happier that he’s now going to direct the movie.” McEwen says Cooper and the rest of the cast remains the same. While he couldn’t give a date for the start of production, he did say he believed it would be sometime this spring. M cE w en say s he is “very involved” as a consultant in both movie projects. “How much time I’m gonna spend on set will be determined later, but I’ll be on set,” he says of the “American Sniper” film. “Unfortunately, as a result of the horrific acts of a gunman, I’m the only consultant left, which I would much rather be different.” Chris Kyle, 38, and his friend Chad Littlefield, 35, were killed when they were shot multiple times at a gun range in Texas last February. Police arrested Eddie Ray Routh, a 25-year- old Marine who had served tours in Iraq and Haiti, for the shooting. “We're going to move on and w e’re going to bring Chris’ message to the big screen just like we did in ‘American Sniper,'” finishes McEwen, “and it’s going to be one of unabashed patriotism and support for the American troops and this country.” STF committee seeks members the commissioners have appointed a local advisory STF committee, the Special Transportation Advisory Committee. The purpose of the STF program is to provide mobility for seniors and persons with disabilities who cannot access regular modes of transportation such as fixed route or personal transportation. STF transportation enables these individuals to “maintain a reasonable quality of life and level of independence.” They need transportation to and from sites for medical, n u tritio n al, shopping, recreational and other services.
