Megan Hegar, a sixth-
grade student at Windy

Boardman, won the school-
level competition o f the
National Geographic Bee
on Jan. 15 and a chance
at a $ 5 0 ,0 0 0 c o l l e g e
scholarship.
The school-level bee,
at which students answered
oral geography questions,
was the first round in
the 26,h annual National
Geographic Bee sponsored
by the National Geographic
Society.
The school w inners
will now take a written test;
up to 100 of the top scorers
will compete in the state bee
on April 4.
The
National
Geographic Society will
provide a trip to Washington,
D.C. for state champions
and teacher-escorts to the
bee national championship
May 19-21. The first-
place national winner will
receive a $50,000 college
scholarship, a li fetime
membership in the society,
and a trip to the Galapagos
Islands.
