The first part o f the gift was a check for $780 from the Heppner branch. Nancy Snider of Wheatland explained that Heppner W h eatlan d em p lo y ees brought donations to their company Christmas party, w h ich the W h eatlan d company then matched. “ T h a t ’ ll p a y fo r our turkeys, 1 bet,” said N e ig h b o rh o o d C en ter director Janice Skaggs, referring to the boxes of food the center hands out to local fam ilies every year. S kaggs said the boxes contain everything for Christmas dinner, plus some. “All they have to do is cook their dinner,” she said. R ealizing Christmas is also a time when kids are hom e from school, Skaggs said the boxes also contain a few extras M S m S T B rU T <Lird' \-<rrr t , j- ch Ms • CTvt / for family meals, such as hot chocolate, macaroni and cheese, pudding, and bread and peanut butter for sandwiches. So far, the center has had applications for 66 boxes of food. A ls o p a rt o f th e presentation Monday in H eppner was a couple hundred pounds of canned food. Snider said the canned goods came from both the Heppner and lone branches as part of a company-wide food drive. lone donated 116 pounds o f canned goods, with Heppner contributing another 131 pounds, which the em ployees at those branches chose to donate to the Neighborhood Center. Overall, all Wheatland branches combined brought in more than a thousand pounds o f food, which every branch donated to a charity of choice.
