C o u n ty P r e s id e n t Brent Martin has invited M o n ic a R a f f e r t y , O regon D epartm ent o f Transportation Compliance Specialist for Motor Carrier Safety, to address the group and answer questions on moving grain in Oregon, as well as Steve Rhea of W heatland Insurance to bring the latest information on Crop Insurance. Industry CEO Blake Rowe and OWGL President Wally Powell will provide a wheat industry update, focusing on issues that have impacted the industry this year. All wheat producers and interested individuals are w elcom e to attend. Contact Brent Martin or the OWGL office at 541-276- 7330 with any questions. The wheat growers will combine their dinner with the Morrow County Grain Growers annual event. The social and dinner begin at 6 p.m. During the month of November the Oregon Trail Library District Boardman and Heppner libraries will be accepting non-perishable food items in lieu of overdue fines. From Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, patrons may bring in non-perishable food items and the libraries will waive their overdue fines. The food will be donated to Columbia River Harvesters and the Heppner Neighborhood Center to help those in need. Obituaries Ruby A. Fulleton Veatch R uby A. F u lle to n Veatch, 63, o f lrrig o n , p assed aw ay M onday, October 28, 2013 at home w ith her husband Bob at her side. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Family Worship Center in lrrigon. Ruby was born June 27. 1950 in Ontario, OR the daughter of Roice and Betty Predmore Fulleton. She was raised and attended school in Heppner, graduating in 1968. A fte r h ig h sc h o o l she received a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR. Ruby also attended M ontana State University and was a member o f their rodeo team. She married Tom Shear o f Eugene and they had two children. They later divorced. Ruby married the love of her life, Robert Veatch, in Coeur d’ Alene, ID on August 2,2008. The couple resided in lrrigon. She enjoyed anything to do with horses, and enjoyed the outdoors and being w ith her fam ily. She and her husband Bob did a lot of traveling and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. Survivors include: her husband. Bob Veatch; son, Ryan and wife Stefanie of Sheridan, OR; daughter, Ann Shear of Hermiston; father, Roice Fulleton of Heppner; sisters and partners in crime, Diana Ball and husband Archie, Rebecca Cannon and husband Dave, both of Heppner; her great love, grandson Kaden; niece, Andrea Fletcher; nephews, D uane B all and T rent Cannon; and num erous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty J. Fulleton. Neighborhood Center Daly receives state holds silent auction award The Neighborhood Center is having a silent auction on collectables; community members are invited to go to the Neighborhood Center, take a look at items and make a bid. The auction will be ongoing as long as the items last. Proceeds will go to help fund the center's holiday baskets. Electric co-op annual ATV benefit raffle meeting Nov. 14 planned for Nelson The annual luncheon meeting of Columbia Basin E lectric C ooperative is planned for Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Isobel Edwards Hall in Fossil. Registration starts at 11:15 a.m. with lunch served at 12 p.m. The annual meeting and election o f directors will follow the lunch. Multiple door prizes will be awarded and results of the annual fo u rth -g rad e E lectrical Safety Poster contest and the annual photography contest will be announced, with winning entries on display. Nelson, a mechanic for MCGG, was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness several months ago. He will be unable to work for one year, while he receives m e d ic a l t r e a tm e n ts ; proceeds from the raffle will help with living and medical expenses. The raffle is for a 2014 Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV. Tickets for the raffle are $ 100 each, with 150 tickets being sold. Raffle tickets are available at any MCGG location. The drawing will be held during the MCGG open house on Dec. 6. Methodist holiday bazaar this Friday The Heppner United Methodist Women will hold their annual holiday bazaar this Friday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Methodist church on the corner of Church and Gale Streets, Heppner. The bazaar will feature pie and coffee for $5 and a chicken casserole lunch with pie for $7.50, as well as a variety of hand-made gifts and baked goods for sale. Community lunch menu Kathy Daly, wife of David Daly and daughter-in-law of Charlie and Yvonne Daly of Little Buttercreek, was awarded the Dave C lark Award at the annual Oregon Recreation and Park Association (ORPA) conference in September.
