BMCC bond would support necessary college technology To the Editor: 1 hereby add my voice to those urging support of the bond for Blue Mountain Community College, which would continue the present tax at the same rate while adding programs, buildings and improvements throughout the college district. While others have spoken of the exciting, regionally- relevant programs and the buildings needed for them that the bond would allow, I would like to address an equally-important issue at stake: the college’s information technology (IT) master plan. The meticulously planned upgrade funded by the bond would ensure that IT services and infrastructure “will keep abreast o f an evolving technology landscape, allow for a collaborative learning environment, provide seamless access to data, be upgradeable, and meet the needs o f the College community today and tomorrow.” While not a program or building that can be “seen,” IT can certainly be felt in every area of the college’s operations. As a BMCC board member, 1 recently attended the national conference of the Association o f Community College Trustees in Seattle. Everyone I heard addressed the need for integrated data systems and dependable support for distance learning. If BMCC is to continue its essential role in education and workforce training in the 21s1 century, it simply must have the necessary technological support to do so. Your vote will make the difference. Thank you in advance for voting yes for BMCC, for our students, and for Eastern Oregon. (s) Lea Mathieu, lone Funeral Notice Creston O. Robinson —Cres*on O.
