Schoiack (Libby). Beth was born B e th ’s happy Dec. 25, 1920 to Elizabeth Maria Slocum young family was struck and Marion Leonard Van by tragedy in 1946 when Schoiack at their home in her husband died in an industrial accident. Beth then married Andy Van Schoiack and moved to the family farm in Heppner. They had three sons, twins David and George, then Jim. Beth’s pioneer spirit was a treasure on the farm, where she raised her young family without electricity for six years. Her life was shattered again when Andy died o f a heart attack at age 50. After losing her second husband, Beth lived in a Yard sale planned to benefit Heppner man Death Notice spiritual com m unity in Clackamas, OR for almost 30 years. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia, brother M arcellus, son D av id , and g ra n d so n Christopher. Beth is survived by her ch ild ren , M ichael, George, Jim and Libby; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. The tournament will be a four-person team scramble event with an entry price of $20 per person, which includes lunch. Children 12 and under playing with their family are $10 each. Lunch will be available starting at noon through the end of play and is available to non-golfers for $10. Prizes include rounds of golf at courses throughout the region; the friendly competition will include some fun games thrown in the mix. John Nelson is in need of a bone marrow transplant and has been matched with potential donors o ff the bone marrow registry. The average te m p e ra tu re w as 71.3 degrees, which was 1.8 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 86.9 degrees, which was 1.4 degrees above normal. The highest was 95 degrees on the seventh. Low te m p e ra tu re s averaged 55.6 degrees, w hich was 2.2 degrees above normal. The low est w as 50 degrees, on the 27th. On fiv e d a y s, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees. Precipitation totaled 0.61 inches during August, w hich was 0.22 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation of at least .01 inch was received on four days with the heaviest, 0.35 inches, reported on the 26th. T h e o u tl o o k fo r September from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-norm al tem peratures and n ear normal precipitation. N o rm a l h ig h s fo r H ep p n er fall from 82 degrees at the start o f September to 71 degrees at the end of September. Normal lows fall from 50 degrees to 43 degrees.
