Janice’s love and passion for barrel racing and competition began at Heppner’s Morrow County Fair & Rodeo and Wranglers Riding Club. Janice graduated in 1978 from Heppner High School and won Oregon’s High School All Around Cowgirl title. She attended BMCC and EOSU on rodeo scholarships, took the Northwest Regional Barrel Race Championship and third at the National College Rodeo in barrels. In 1979 and 1980, she reigned as Pendleton Round-Up Princess and Queen, 1981 Miss Rodeo Oregon. Janice also ran barrels at the prestigious Calgary World Cup Team Invite. F o r a li f e tim e , she com peted in the Columbia River Circuit, NPRA rodeos, Hermiston Barrel Club and any barrel race she could get to. Training barrel race horses and rodeo com petition ran deep in her blood. She dearly cherished the camaraderie with those rodeo families. Janice raised the greatest joys and blessings of her life. her four children, Hailey, Paige, Brooke, Zane and grandson Wyatt in Hermiston, OR. She was a devoted mother who inspired her children in rodeo, sports and all their activities. The O regon Trail Pro Rodeo Champion Barrel Race buckle is given every year in Janice’s memory by her family and friends. “She truly was the epitome of a barrel racer.
