Meeting planned regarding BMCC bond Residents o f Morrow County are invited to a meeting at Heppner City Hall (111 N. Main St.) on Thursday, July 18, from 3 to 5 p.m.. to learn about Blue Mountain Community Col lege’s bond levy on the No vember ballot. The meeting is sponsored by the Mor row County subcommittee o f the Friends o f BMCC Bond Election Committee to spread the word about the bond, how much it will cost and why it is needed. If approved by voters, the bond levy will replace BM CC’s cu rren t bond, which expires in June 2014, at the same tax rate ($0.31 per $ 1,000). The new levy will raise approximately $28.1 million to support construction for new work force training programs in Boardman, Hermiston and Pendleton, as well as capital improvements at college fa cilities throughout Morrow and Umatilla counties. The new construction projects are the Industrial Processes Workforce De velopm ent and STEAM (science, technology, en gineering, arts and math) Center, to be located near the SAGE Center in Board- man; the Precision Irri gated Agriculture Center in Hermiston; and the Applied Animal Science Educa tion Center in Pendleton. These new facilities will enable BMCC to work with local industry partners and add approximately 30 new degree and certificate programs that will train students for family-wage jobs in the region. Capital improvements to existing, aging college facilities will increase en ergy efficiency, reduce m aintenance costs, and bring buildings into compli ance with current building, safety and ADA standards. For more information about the July 18 meeting, contact the Morrow County subcommittee chair, Louis Carlson, at 541-676-5302.
