Remembrance Walk/5K Run
planned
On March 16, Friends
Helping Friends will com
memorate the fifth annual
Rem em brance Walk/5K
Run while enjoying Hep
pner’s 31s* St. Patrick’s Day
Celebration.
Friends Helping
Friends will gather at 8:30
a.m. in the Heppner United
Methodist Church for a re
membrance social hour and
registration. Participants’
$5 donations will be kept in
a local pot o’ gold and do
nated to St. Patrick’s Senior
Center and Apartments.
The route is a 5K (3.1
mile) loop around wee little
Heppner. Start time is 9:30
a.m. The race will begin and
end at the Heppner United
Methodist Church.
The run starts with a
short out-and-back, north
on Riverside Ave. to the
Heppner High School soft
ball field. Runners will then
cut over to the Heppner El
ementary School. From the
school, the route passes by
the Morrow County Court
house and heads towards
Hager Park, where runners
will cross in front o f the
Willow Creek Dam.
On the downhill stretch,
runners will pass through
th e n e i g h b o r h o o d o f
Sweeney Mortuary toward
the U.S. Forest Service of
fice and finish out the run
on Main Street, returning to
the Methodist Church. Run
ners are then free to grab a
drink and some snacks in
the church basement.
Participants are asked to
keep a few things in mind:
The St. Patrick’s Day run
is for fun; it is not a timed
event, although runners are
encouraged to finish. Run
at your own pace and feel
free to walk if you need
to. Strollers and dogs on
leashes are welcome. There
shouldn’t be much traffic,
but runners are asked to be
vigilant...look both ways
before crossing the road,
stay on sidewalks or shoul
ders whenever possible, and
face traffic.
Everyone is encouraged
to wear green or pink.

The Lady Cards were
dished a close 41-49 loss
by Echo. They rebounded
to take a decisive 60-33 vic
tory over Central Christian,
only to fall to Dufur the
next night, 30-38. Despite
the two losses, though, the
girls advance to district
playoffs and will match up
against Sherman in the first
game of the district tourney
in Hermiston High School
at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb.
14.
The lone boys, after
taking a 48-54 loss to Echo,
decided they didn’t like
the taste o f defeat. They
went on to achieve solid
wins o f 76-19 over Central
Christian and 79-47 over
Dufur. They, too, advance
to districts in Hermiston,
where they will play against
