E xhausted from je t lag and their ordeal, they climbed in the car and tried to leave the mall, only to be blocked by a police barrier. No one who was around the mall that day was al lowed to leave, most stand ing in the chilly December air waiting for the end of the nightmare. “There were people standing out there without any coats or anything,” said Linda. The Lius said they were held by the police until they had been questioned. When the police were certain they had the only shooter, they let everyone go. The four returned to their hotel, hoping for sleep after the terror of the day, grateful the experience hadn’t been much, much worse. “I’m glad there were people here praying,” said Alvin.
