FOUR - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, September 19,2012 A View from the Hill By Doris Brosnan The “Dog Days of Sum mer” did not keep some of the Willow Creek Terrace residents inside last month. Instead, August seemed to be a month for a few jaunts. A trip to the North End of the county became possi ble for four residents when Leann Rea took them to the Port of Morrow tour, guided by Gary Neal. All were impressed and surprised by the increasing number o f industries in the Port and by the international, as well as national, reputation of many of the businesses. Residents will be interested in another trip to the Port after the SAGE center— the informative visitors’ center—is completed next spring. Ten residents enjoyed Seniors Day at the Morrow County Fair on the 16u>. Not too hot, not too cold, but just right, the event offered en tertain m en t, food concessions, interest ing displays and booths, and some surprises. Six residents— Mabel Heath, Lois Allyn, Peggy Davis, Velma Wight and Marge Burgess—earned ribbons on entries in the crafts di vision, and Bud Batty and Alice Buckley earned rib bons in the garden produce division. Patience paid off for the six residents who eventu ally traveled to the North End for Music in the Parks. They were in Boardman on the 20^ for the final perfor mance of the summer sea son. Until then, fate seemed to throw several curves at them, interfering with ear lier plans to attend. Missing at these func tions were Virginia Wilkin son and Helen Crawford. Virginia suffered injuries from a fall and is presently working on rehabilitation at the Richland Rehabili tation Center; Room 101, Bed 2; 1745 Pike Ayenue; Richland, WA 99354. Helen has recently decided to move permanently, but not far away. She now resides at the Pioneer Memorial Long-Term Care Facility, and she is as eager for visi tors as she was while living at the Terrace. Also eager for visi tors is the Terrace’s new resident, Jean Ann Turner. Jean Ann is meeting her new neighbors and looking forward to continuing her visits with old friends. She missed out on the August observations on the Hill, the days of serious reflection—such as Friend ship Day, Sisters Day, Mid dle-Child Day, Best-Friends Day and Women’s-Equality Day— and the ones that included some important food— Ice-C ream -Sand wich Day, Root Beer-Floats Day, Rice-Pudding Day, Banana-Split Day, Soft Ice- Cream Day and Peach-Pie Day. But she and the other residents are well on their way into a September of significant days. Readers who missed N u rse ry -R h y m es Day, C offee-Ice-C ream Day, A corn-Squash Day and Studebaker Day might want to mark their calendars, too, so that they will be ready for Fortune-Cookie Day (13), Ballroom-Dancing Week (16-22), Miniature- G olf Day (21), Innergize Day (23) and Active-Aging Week (23-29). Are the pos sible ways to celebrate almost endless? Terrace residents and staff welcome visitors on their celebratory days and are always pleased to have company at the dining table and in their conversations. They also appreciate the donations that continue to grace their table, most re cently from Carl and Geri Martin, Joan Boyd, Uma tilla Hospice, Anita Bai ley, Dan and Diana Sharp, Shirley George, Jerald and Leann Rea, and Bob and George Naims. As the Community on the Hill prepare for the changing season, ready to greet fall, they regret hav ing to say, “Goodbye,” to a neighbor who recently passed away. Peggy Davis passed on Sunday, Septem ber 9. She will be missed. Classes to begin at BMCC Fall term will get un derway at Blue Mountain Com m unity College on Monday, Sept. 24.
