A few weeks ago, my husband made that trip to Heppner, the town he always referred to as “Heaven on Earth.” Unfortunately, this trip was to be his last trip. Through this difficult time for me and my family, the citizens o f Heppner have been more than the word, “hospitable,” could ever describe. The pride they have for their town and their inherent characteristic o f “tak in g care o f one another” are only two o f the multitude of words that begin to describe the local residents. Any individual would be more than blessed to acquire even a small percentage o f what they possess, as a community. These are the attributes that my husband was, without doubt, consistently drawn to. And thus, his ashes will be scattered on his beloved mountain. My family and I would especially like to extend our h e a rtfe lt g ratitu d e to the M orrow C ounty S h e r if f ’s D e p a rtm e n t (Detective Sergeant Terry Harper), Lexington Auto Body (Carmen, Dale and Sew On E t Cetera Heppner Storage Units • Different Sizes Available Oil Products G e r a ld H o e ft (5 4 1 ) 7 0 1 - 9 6 6 0 Sewing Service 130 N.E. As the years went by... m arriage...tw o beautiful children...the girl came to realize that this boy's small town roots played a large part in cultivating the type of person he was, the man she fell in love with. And his fondness for small towns was prevalent in his passion for the outdoors. And that's where this story leads to the town o f Heppner, Oregon. My husband has been hunting with his family on Black Mountain, since he was 12 years old. Every year since then, no matter where his life took him, he would always try to make the long trip back to Morrow County, Heppner and “Black” (as he called it). He would scout, hike, camp and hunt deer... y 5 4 1 -6 7 6 -2 9 4 6 Mon - Fri 8:00 - 4:00 Thank you to Heppner's City Councilors and staff for the beautiful m ural/ p a in tin g and the n ice retirement party- both are greatly appreciated. So p a r e n t s , an d lo v in g community members thank you for everything that you do. I can say first hand, that nothing I have ever strived for would have been possible without the support and guidance that I have received from my friends and family. I ’d also like to give a HUGE thank you to Russ Peak, who was the main entertainment of the Fair; along with the Old Time Fiddlers with their w onderful m usic, RDO who so g racio u sly put on the traditional Tractor Pull. I know that I had fun w atching the little guys and gals pedaling their little hearts out. But none of our entertainment would have been possible without Heppner’s sound man.
