Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August 15,2012 Driver’s safety class BEO ‘saddles up’ scheduled for rodeo An AARP driver's safe ty class will be held August 24 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center in Heppner. This is a nationwide accredited defensive driving class and is open to all ages. Accord ing to class coordinators, participants may qualify for an insurance discount after taking the class. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Par ticipants are asked to bring a lunch. This month’s class will include a special promotion for anyone who works or has worked in education, including teacher, janitors, cafeteria workers, coaches, office personnel, Sunday school teachers and anyone who has home-schooled their children. Anyone who fits into any of those cat egories can take the class for $5. Otherwise, the cost for AARP members is $ 12, and non-members cost $14. Michel is a long-time Heppner resident, moving here for the first time in 1980. She has been active in pool tournaments and on bowling teams, and now volunteers much of her time scheduling bus trips for the senior center. Though she left briefly a couple o f tim es— once to take care o f her aging mother in California—she moved back quickly when she had the chance. “I love this town and I’ll never leave again,” she says. The City o f Heppner has sports equipment avail able for use at the new and improved Hager Park. In addition to the new pavilion, the park now has barbecues, horse shoe pits and poles for a sport net. The city has a professional- grade net, Volleyballs, a badminton set and horse shoes. For a small deposit, citizens or visitors can pick up any o f these items at City Hall. There is no cost to use this equipment. Any item can be kept overnight or for the weekend for use after hours. The meal will include navy beans and ham, green salad, sliced pickled beets, com bread and chocolate peanut butter pie. Milk is served at each meal. Suggested donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change. NOTICE Gas Transmission Northwest LLC Files Application for Carty Lateral Project Boardman Conservation Area On July 31,2012, Gas Transmission Northwest LLC (GTN) filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting authorization to construct a natural gas transmission pipeline in Morrow County, Oregon. This project, called the Carty Lateral Project, is subject to the jurisdiction of FERC under the Natural Gas Act. On August 7, 2012, FERC assigned Docket No. CP12-494-000 to this application. Specifically, GTN proposes to install: • Approximately 24.3 miles of 20-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline extending north from GTN's existing Compressor Station 9 near lone, Oregon, and terminating at a connection with the proposed Carty Generating Station to be owned and operated by Portland General Electric Company (PGE). The proposed project has a design capacity of approximately 175,000 dekatherms per day. The project will be designed and constructed to meet or exceed the safety standards established for natural gas transmission pipelines by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
