come decent and responsible
adults is a complex and chal
lenging job that is becoming
increasingly difficult in our
society. To be a person o f
good character, youth must
develop strengths o f the 4
“Hs” : head— they must know
w hat is good; h e a rt— they
must desire to do the good;
hands— they must be willing
to do good; and health— they
must develop a lifestyle that
supports the desire and willing
ness to do good. The Morrow
County 4-H program strives to
develop good character in 4-H
members.
Qualities that define good
character have been debated
by various groups but, in 1992,
the Josephson Institute o f Eth
ics with the help o f scholars,
parents, youth w orkers and
others published the Aspen
Declaration. This declaration
has becom e the cornerstone
for the c h a ra c te r d e v e lo p
ment education program s in
the United States. The Aspen
Declaration states:
1. The next generation will
be the stewards of the world.

ety needs citizens with good

planned for
Wednesday

The fair’s annual pet show
will take place on Wednesday,
August 15, at 3 p.m. The ugli
est and prettiest pet contest will
be held immediately following
the show.
