Chamber Chatter
Heppner
Due to great commu
nity support, the Morrow
County’s Relay for Life
event was a huge success
for our local communities.
More information will be
sent out soon as a recap
o f the event. Those who
purchased luminaries for
a loved one can pick them
up at the Community Bank
through Friday, July 13.
Anyone who would like to
make a donation still can;
make a donation online
through August 31 at http://
relayforlife.org/heppneror
or drop it off at Bank of
Eastern Oregon, Commu
nity Bank or the Heppner
Chamber office. We would
like to give a “Shout Out”
for those food vendors who
helped feed the teams as
they walked endless laps.
Quality Concessions were
there from 3 - 11:30 p.m.
on Saturday; Team CCS
offered a Taco/Enchiladas
fundraiser meal from 12-2
a.m. and The Stable of
Youth (Bobbette Lovgren)
set up from 1-5 a.m. on
Sunday morning. Although
not all of the money is in
yet, we have already raised
$18,500; we are hoping to
raise at least $20,000 before
the campaign ends.
Friday, July 13, 11 a.m.
at the Heppner Library: Care
to be bugged? Programs for
children and adults will
be offered for area resi
dents interested in learning
more about the fascinating
world of insects. The pro
grams will be presented by
entom ologists Dr. Silvia
Rondon and Carol Mills
from Oregon State Univer
sity’s Agricultural Research
and Extension Center. The
children’s program is tar
geted for preschool through
elem entary school ages
and will cover these top
ics: what are insects, good
insects and bad insects,
how and where to collect
them, and how to preserve
insects. Children will hear
a story from The Beauti
ful Beetle Book and will
enjoy hands-on activities
including an insect puzzle
and harvesting ants to place
in a see-through colony.
Samples of interesting in
sects will be displayed. A
second one-hour program
will begin at noon at each
location, immediately fol
lowing the children’s pro
gram. While this program is
targeted to adults, children
are welcome to attend with
their parents. Insect ba
sics. biology and the insect
world will be covered in
a 30-minute power point
presentation. Displays of
insects from the laboratory
and under microscopes will
allow attendees to view
main insect pests in the
region as well as those that
are beneficial. The program
is sponsored by Libraries
