Lots of upgrade including new flooring, new roof, insulation, new vinyl windows, water heater and much more. $ 6 0 , 0 0 0 weather station hit all day was 39 F. With the abso lutely blue sky, though, participants had no trouble seeing anything in the sky all day. Jason Palmer and Pat Struthers mowed out the range and parking area on Saturday. On Sunday, they got the range set up, put the coffee and cocoa on, and had everything ready to go by 9:45 a.m. Five participants gathered at the launch site on Sunday. Palmer and the club president, daughter Hannah Palmer, arrived at 10 a.m. to join leader Pat Struthers, and the three got busy flying rockets. Darrell Smith o f Pendleton got to the field about 11 a.m., and John Breidenbach arrived about 1 p.m. The club had a total o f 23 flights, including one A, four Bs, 13 Cs, three Ds, one F and one H. The Palmers put seven rockets in the air, including the new Der Red Max. Jason had a modi fied Alpha on a C6-5 with canards that did a very wild loop-under-power but ended up nose-up. Sit on the deck and look out at the forest. $70,000 Smith tested out his F Egglofter entry (complete with egg but without altim eter) for tower compatibil ity. After lots o f tweaking and some graphite on the rails, it boosted up perfectly straight and very high on an F25-9, probably to 2,500- 3.000 feet. It had a perfect chute but then the wind took it. Smith looked for an hour and came back; Struthers followed his own line on it and walked directly to it, 3.000 feet south o f the pad, in the shade against a diver sion ditch. Smith later put up his Diablo on a very snarky H123W; the chute tangled but it survived a bounce landing well. Briedenbach had repaired the motor mount o f his Estes Bullpup since the October launch, and flew it perfectly three times on a B and two Cs. He also flew three other new rock ets, and had short hikes for retrieval. Struthers flew an other test o f his 24mm Super-Roc Duration entry on a D12-5. Once again, it looped under power about 200 feet up, continued ver South Morrow County 4-H Rocket Club president Hannah Palmer, trying to decide on a rocket to get ready, but mostly just freezing, during a chilly December 4 launch day. -Photo by Pat Struthers zen out by 3 p.m., so the group packed up, cleaned up, and was off the range by 4 p.m. Everyone is looking forward to another success ful launch day on December 18, but hopefully with less wind and less cold. Aside from the up com ing December date, other public launches are scheduled for January 8 and 22. More information is available by emailing Pat Struthers at patstr@uci.net or at www.wyrdchao.net/ VAB/4h/. tical and popped out the chute nicely. He also flew his Estes Snitch saucer for the 34th time in its career. Struthers also test ed out the new tower hard ware with six flights o f his Altitude Gamer rocket; he flew four flights with a C6- 7, and had a lot o f trouble with it tipping in the wind. The two D 12-7 fl i ghts were higher and more consistent, one reaching 1,832 feet and 290 miles per hour accord ing to the altimeter.
