FOUR - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April 6,2011 Mustang track opens season The Heppner Mus tang track team traveled to Umatilla to compete against 14 other teams in the Umatilla Icebreaker on Friday, March 18. Many athletes scored personal records in the first meet of the season. The boys’ team finished in sixth place, and the girls’ team finished in third place. Conner Pappas had a big day for the Mustang boys. He ran sprinted to a first place finish in the 100 meter dash and a sec ond place finish in the 200 meter dash. The Mustangs placed three in the shot put, with Jacob Moore finish ing fourth, Andrew Bara seventh and Jordan Wright eighth. Alex Pickles led the Mustangs in the jumping events, finishing fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. E m m a O sm in scored wins in two events for the girls’ team. Osmin ran a personal best time in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and jumped a personal best in the long jump. The varsity men tied for fourth place with TroutLake/Glen- wood. The varsity women placed fifth. There were 19 total teams competing. C onner Pappas brought home the only win in an individual event for the team. Pappas won the 200 meter dash and also fin ished fourth in the 100. Ja cob Moore was also a bright spot for the Mustangs. The sophomore finished third in the shot put and eighth in the discus. The girls’ 4x 100 meter relay team (Car rie Haguewood, Mekayla Kindle, Bente Christen, and Emma Osmin) raced to a second place finish. Hague wood also placed third in the high jump and second in the triple jump. Osmin was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100.
