SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, September 8,2010 Credit improvement, identity protection, and money management programs offered at Heppner Library this month Interested in pro tecting yourself from iden tity theft, improving your credit, or in just learning how to manage your money better? If so, three one-hour consumer programs in Sep tember at the Oregon Trail Library District’s Heppner Branch Library may pro vide some assistance. The programs are launched under the “LEO Saves” initiative by Li braries of Eastern Oregon. LEO Saves is a two-year project for public libraries in Umatilla and Morrow counties to help encourage individuals to learn more about saving, investing and sound financial manage ment. Each program will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and will be held in the branch library located at 444 N Main St. All programs are free and open to anyone interested in improving or learning more about man aging financial resources. Attendees can attend one or all of the programs; ad vance registration is not required. The programs are provided by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) of the Tri-Cities. Established in 1969, CCCS helps individuals with debt management, credit aware ness and im provem ent, home ownership and other educational programs “Know Your Cred it” will be held on Tuesday, September 14. It is a known statistic that 76% o f all credit reports have errors on them. This one hour program explains how to obtain a free credit report and provides knowledge necessary to understand exactly what your creditor sees when looking at your report. The credit scoring module will be explained as well as ideas for increas ing one’s credit score or rebuilding a solid credit history for one’s future. “Identity Theft: It Can Happen to You” is set for Tuesday, Septem ber 28. This program focuses on ever-increasing iden tity theft and how consum ers can protect themselves from fraudulent use of their credit or savings. LEO Saves is fund ed through at grant to Li braries of Eastern Oregon (LEO) from the Financial Industry Regulatory Au thority (FINRA) Education Foundation and the Ameri can Library Association (ALA)’s “Smart Investing @ Your Library” project. LEO Saves is a pi lot for rural areas under the national program with consumer information and classes to be offered this year and next in the two eastern Oregon counties. FINRA is the largest non governm ental regulator o f securities firms doing business in the U.S. The FINRA Investor Educa tion Foundation supports innovative research and educational projects that give underserved Ameri cans the knowledge, skills and tools necessary for fi nancial success throughout life. To date, the FINRA Foundation has approved $14.7 million in grants and an additional $10.2 million in direct investor education programming. Sheriffs Report ing Uninsured and Failure to Wear Seat Belt, and Luis Fernando Gonzales Cifu- entes, 29, for Failure to Wear Seat Belt. The vehicle was impounded. August 19: Mor row County Sheriff’s Office received report of a mail box stolen with the mail box pried off the stand. -M C SO d ep u ty advised a juvenile male in Heppner that he needed both a front and rear plate. He had just a rear plate. -MCSO received report that Chelsey Rae Parker, 25, turned herself in to serve her commitment order for DUII. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that his 35-year-old son was making threats to kill him. The caller was tres passed from his son’s place and his son trespassed from his place. -MCSO received report of someone who had attempted to force entry into a shop in Irrigon. -MCSO received a 911 hang-up call. It was a nine-year-old child attempt ing to call a friend. -MCSO received report from a subject who said he was involved in a hit and run in Pendleton earlier and wanted to turn himself in. He was in Hermiston at the time and was advised to go to the Hermiston Police Department. Hermiston PD was advised. -MCSO received report that a subject was at the Irrigon Shell station with three large plastic con tainers of baseball cards. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject who said he received a suspicious phone call from a male who said the Irrigon subject owed him money and he was to pay by 5 p.m. that day or a warrant would be issued for his arrest, After an internet search by MCSO, it was believed to be a scam. -MCSO received report of a male scream- ing and yelling, “Do as I say,” and a car door that keeps opening and clos- ing. MCSO responded and located the subject at the entry to the fish hatchery in Irrigon. It was a verbal dispute only. -MCSO received report o f a male subject driving with no license and no insurance with his son in the car. -Boardman Police Officer reported he was flagged down. It was a DOC officer looking for the range. -BPD received re- port of graffiti on the back of Sam Boardman Elemen- tary School, -BPD arrested Da- vid Shane Molina, 31, for Violation of Release Agree- ment. He was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. -BPD officer re- ported he was out with a ve- hide parked in the middle of the roadway on Oregon Trail/Anderson Rd. -BPD received re port of three females fight- ing in front of a subject’s property with one female on the ground. MCSO and BPD responded. The vic- tim did not want to press charges, -Heppner Ambu- lance received request for an • ambulance fir a 93-year-old male with severe abdominal pains. Heppner Ambulance responded and transported the subject to Pioneer Me- morial Hospital, A pril 20: Mor- row County Sheriff’s Of fice received report from a Boardman woman that som eone came into her room the previous night and threatened her. She said she did not want the Sheriff’s Office to respond to her location because she though the subject would get back at her “sometime, somewhere, some way.” Behavioral Health arrived on the scene and said they would advise if they needed a deputy. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that her neighbor’s large black dog came through the fence and attacked her Chihuahua. Dennis Edgar Baker, 54, was cited for M aintaining a Dog as a Public Nuisance. -MCSO received report from the Irrigon High School principal that a juvenile student was truant. Kimberly A. Hixson, 43, was arrested on an Irrigon Justice Court warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/Driving While Sus pended with $524 full bail required. -Boardman Police Department received report from a subject who found a dog on his property. -BPD received re port of a vehicle all over the road on 1-84.
