SURE Program deadline approaching

submit applications for as­
sistance for 2008 crop year

sistance (SURE) program
payment is September 30,
2010. “Farmers and ranch­
ers in Oregon have to cope
with all types o f natural di­
sasters,” said Farm Service

the SURE program to as­
sist grow ers w hen these
w eather-related disasters
cause crop losses.”
S U R E p ro v id e s
revenue takes into account
the actual value o f produc­
tion on the farm as well as
insurance indemnities and
certain farm program pay­
ments.
To be eligible for
SURE, producers must have
suffered at least a 10 percent
production loss on a crop of
economic significance. In
addition, producers must
meet the risk management
purchase requirem ent by
either obtaining a policy
or plan o f insurance, under
the Federal Crop Insurance
Act or NAP coverage, for
all economically significant
crop d isa ste r a ssistan ce
payments to eligible pro­
ducers on farms that have
incurred crop production
or crop quality losses. The
program takes into co n ­
sideration crop losses on
all crops grown by a pro­
ducer nationw ide. SURE
provides assistance in an
amount equal to 60 percent
of the difference between
the SURE farm guarantee
and total farm revenue. The
farm guarantee is based
on the amount o f crop in­
surance and N on-insured

producers had the oppor­
tunity to obtain a waiver of
the risk management pur­
chase requirement through
a buy-in provision. Pro­
ducers considered socially

eligible for SURE without a
policy or plan o f insurance
or NAP coverage.
