Well, it is the 2010 Morrow County Fair and Rodeo Grand Marshal Dr. Dick Temple. Dick was bom, raised and attended school in Wallowa County. After high school, he attended collage at Eastern Oregon University, Oregon State and Colorado State where he earned a degree in animal science and veterinary medicine. Dick practiced in Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming and Montana. He also went to Canada where he practiced in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Dick came to Morrow County in 1986 and set up shop on Hinton Creek above Heppner before moving to Lexington in 1988 where he practices veterinary medicine today. Dick met his wife of 43 years, Karen Lovell, at the Wallowa County Junior Rodeo, the only rodeo he ever got to go to as a kid. Dick and Karen were married August 6, 1967, so they will be spending their anniversary this year at the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo with their family. They have four children, Gordon, Brent, Laurel and Kristal, along with eight grandchildren, whom they are both extremely proud of. Dick and Karen came to Morrow County to work for their friends and raise their kids in a good community. Dr. Temple has done a variety of things during his lifetime. He was a federal meat inspector and taught as an instructor at the North Alberta Institute of Technology. He was a talk show host on radio station KLWJ for a year. He currently gives speeches about the creation of life and has a three- part seminar on Dr. Dick Temple Real cowboys. Real action. Real rodeo. marriage relations. He has given these speeches as far away as Portland and Molalla, Oregon. He also has been the speaker at cowboy church. When he was in the fifth grade he became interested in creation/evolution and he is now on a first name basis with several of the top scientists in the United States. He is still looking for the first bit of evidence for evolution that will stand up to scientific scrutiny. One of his proudest times came as a result of disagreeing with the conclu sions of published research on calf hood vaccinations. He convinced a ranch on Butter Creek to keep records on an experiment for a year. As a result the ranches in South Morrow County were using the branding time vaccination program presently used across the Western United States five years before the experts figured it out. He has also set up mineral programs that have been highly profitable for the ranchers. One ranch’s springtime medicine expense dropped from $2,000 to $300 the year after adopting the program, he says. Although Dick doesn’t get to rope a lot, he has placed at the Pendleton Round-up 13 years in a row in the wild cow milking. He was also the 2009 Morrow County Amateur calf roping saddle winner. He’was very proud of himself when he won third place at the Mud Lake Alberta Canada rodeo in the calf roping in the I970’s. He felt he had done well, considering it was in the mud, the calves were Join us for the big and the only two who beat him were professional cowboys. The Temple family is a big supporter of this community and are always willing to lend a hand to anyone that may need it. r .M p f ü 1 - K Í - * PENDLETON ROUNb bP O H appy C anyon V X In d ia n Pageant ✓ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- \ Join UEC in supporting the Morrow County Fair Sept 16-19,2010 Schedule of Events | Sept. 11 Dress-Up Parade, Concert & Sept. 16 Rodeo, Tough Enough To Kick-Off Dance & Gam es I Sept. 13 Round-Up Foundation Memorial Golf Tournament & US Bank/Pendleton PBR Classic |Sept. 14 US Bank/Pendleton PBR Wear Pink Day, Happy Canyon Sept. 17 Westward Ho!
