Originally the council voted to spend $300 on the pro gram, which began in July. Due to the volume of partic ipants, the money quickly ran out, with the city having to turn participants away in only the 3rd week. The city ran the program for the first time in August of last year and it was a huge success with cit izens collecting over 2600 pounds of the puncturevine. This year the city began the program earlier in the year in hopes of collecting the weed while they’re small, preventing them from pro ducing seed pods. The puncturevine and their seed pods need to be collected in bags provid ed by the city and returned to city hall to receive $3 per bag in July and $ 1 per bag in August, or until the budget has been spent. Bags may be picked up at Boardman City Hall anytime from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more in formation on the program, contact Boardman City Hall at 541-481-9252.
