Some Wi l l ow Creek Terrace residents view the weather as the main reason June seemed to pass so quickly. Rain, rain, and more rain seemed to delay the coming of actual summer weather, and now June has moved aside for July already. The rain and cool temperatures have affected the garden, so the amount of produce has been less than hoped for, but the recent change prom ises some later results for the dining tables, including com on the cob. O f course, the rains have also provided w ork for gardeners interest ed in tackling the persistent weeds. The weath er’s drying out and warming up means that residents are now able to travel to north Morrow County to enjoy Music in the Parks. They attended the performance on July 12 in Boardman and plan to return for one more performance in August. While the early-June weather kept most everyone inside, it didn’t keep them idle. Sev eral days o f significance provided some entertaining moments and some thought- provoking moments. Resi dents and staff now know when Superman flew onto the scene, have yo-yo’ed to celebrate that toy’s anniver sary, had an opportunity to try their hands at juggling on World Juggling Day, and competed in watermelon seed-spitting (preparing for LesSchiuah.cor U S SCHWAB FREE 6-POINT INSPECTION S FREE TIRE ROTATION \ 8» <&*> ■■& «*■ 5 15 Sx REGASUS PASSENGER CAR TIRE 155/80TR-13 SIZE PRICE 155/80TR-13 165/80TR-13 P185/75R-14 P195/75R-14 P205/75R-14 P20 5/75SR 14 P20 5/75SR 15 P 225/75SR-15 STARTING AT y / EXCELLENT VALUE m i l IESISI MM M il P235/75SR-15 Low cost tire with a high traction tread compound for added durability, m i l l i n t * m i h i t tuff AMARMI SIZE SUM AMARCI ! And they were invited to discuss family on Family History Day, think about the meaning o f National Forgiveness Day, and con template the importance of Waffle Iron Day. Of course, everyone on the Hill was invited to the fireworks at dusk on July 4, to celebrate our freedom, but most of July’s supplemental activi ties will be just for fun and frolic. Residents were in vited to wear the fashion of the day on National Bikini Day, but none accepted. The Teddy Bear Picnic was, apparently, better received, as was the ice cream social with the visiting Garden Club. Nostalgia will proba bly reign on Woody-Wagon Day, and, surely, everyone looks forward to what will accompany the Gummi- worm, Strawberry-Sundae, P each-Pie, Ice Cream - C ones, O ld-Jokes, and Cheesecake Days of July. The month will end with a week of visiting an exotic place! This year, residents and staff will “journey” to the Virgin Islands, via decorations, music, foods, and educational informa tion. Anyone wishing to escape to the islands for a few minutes any day during the week of the 25th through the 3151 should visit the Ter race! Moving to the Terrace just in time for the m onth’s weekly and extra activities, Helen Crawford joined her new neighbors, many already- familiar faces, on July 6. She can now be part of the Welcome Committee when two more individuals join the com m unity on July 12 and 26. She has come to the Hill in time to help celebrate the birthdays that make July “the irloBft» f it 1 the Velmas.” Both Wftha Felt and Velma Wight are the month’s celebrities. Residents and staff at the Terrace en courage anyone interested in the lighter side of life to join them for some of these moments that they view as important to a positive bal ance in everyone’s life. When fall rolls around thousands of people throughout Fleppner will be talking about what they did on their sum mer vacation. The American Red Cross hopes that most of them will be able to say they “helped save a life this sum mer.” This statement will be true if they will take the time to give blood. Blood donation often takes a back seat to vacations and other summer activities, and Heppner is not alone. Fewer people are donating blood nationwide, which can cause blood shortages in many states. The need for blood remains constant throughout the year. American Red Cross Blood Services collects blood to ensure patient needs are met year-round. In order to meet these demands, blood must be available before it’s needed. Valid identification is required for all blood dona tions. All eligible donors are asked to schedule an ap pointment to donate blood for the Heppner community blood drive at St. Patrick’s Senior Center at 182 N. Main for July 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. by calling 1-800-RedCross (800- 733-2767). For more informa tion about blood donation or eligibility, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood. org.
