Recreation m an agers on the Umatilla Na tional Forest are recruiting volunteers to spend part of or all of the summer as campground hosts at three popular recreation sites. Ju bilee Lake, Olive Lake and Frazier Campgrounds. J u b i l e e Lake Campground is the largest campground on the for est, offering 53 individual campsites, four picnic areas and a 2.8 mile accessible hiking trail around the lake. This lakeside campground is located 12 miles north east of Tollgate on the Walla Walla Ranger District. Olive Lake Camp ground features 26 individ ual sites, two group sites, a boat ramp, two docks, a day use area, and a 2-mile hiking trail around the lake. This campground is located on the North Fork John Day Ranger District about 10 miles west of the town of Granite. Frazier C a m p ground, also on the North Fork John Day Ranger Dis trict, is located 12 miles east of Ukiah on Highway 244. This campground offers 18 individual campsites, four group campsites, a day-use picnic shelter, and provides trailhead access to over 100 miles of OHV trails in the Winom-Frazier OHV complex. “A camp host helps by providing information on the area and making other campers feel at home,” said JeffBloom, Recreation Spe cialist on the Walla Walla Ranger District. Hosts will visit with other campers and day-use visitors, clean and maintain restrooms, restock supplies, occasionally clean up after a messy camper and carry out a few other tasks. “They keep an eye on things and set a good example for others in the campground,” said Bloom. Individuals or cou ples can apply to be hosts. “ We often have retired couples apply to the camp host program. They find it the ideal way to spend their summer in a beautiful setting,” said Bloom. Hosts need to be friendly, flex ible, and responsible. Host applicants may be subject to a criminal background check. Those who apply will need to supply their own tent, trailer, camper, or motor home. Camp hosts will be provided a campsite, usually near the main en tryway to the campground. Though the host program is a volunteer program, a food allowance is offered and hosts will be reimbursed for their propane. Inland Northwest Musicians to hold summer concerts The Inland North- west Musicians will hold their annual free summer pops concerts June 18 and 19, featuring music from the movies and Broadway. The June 18 con- cert is at 7 p.m. at McKen- zie Park in Hermiston and is the kickoff concert to the Hermiston Parks and Rec- reation Movies in the Park, A movie will be shown following the concert with popcorn provided. The June 19 con- cert is at 4 p.m. at Cove Ascension School and is sponsored by the Cove Community Association.
