St. Patrick’s CCD students enjoy hotdog roast CCD students from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church recently enjoyed a hotdog roast at the home of Dick and Sharon Jones. -Contributed Photo The CCD students, pre-k through sixth grade, along with their families, met at the home o f Dick and Sharon Jones during Octo ber for a hotdog roast. The children en joyed the vast acreage to run, play and hide. Father Condon even rode the Gator with Hannah Jones being his chauffeur. Mr. Jones had a huge fire built with a little rock wall around the edges. Everyone enjoyed salads, beans, and espe cially, the s ’m ores. For some o f the children, it was their first time to have the tasty treat. As the sun was set ting, Joe Lindsay and his guitar led the singing with some campfire and church songs. It was decided that the Hotdog Roast should be an annual event. Bradbury completes U.S. Navy basic training Navy Seaman Re cruit Joseph S. Bradbury, son o f Victoria L. and step son o f Donald W. Tarpley of Irrigon recently completed U.S. N avy basic training at Recruit Training Com mand, Great Lakes, IL. During the eight- week program , Bradbury c o m p le te d a v a rie ty o f tra in in g w hich included classroom study and practi cal instruction on naval cus toms, first aid, firefighting. a t 2 p .m . S aturday, N o v em b er 7, 2009, at the Heppner Ma sonic Cemetery. She was bom June 17, 1924 in Willows, the daughter o f M aurice and R osetta D eos S harrard. She was the seventh o f eight children. She attended Arlington High School and g rad u ated in 1942. She married Riley Munkers in Goldendale, WA on Sep tember 8 , 1945. The couple raised two sons, Donald and Gary. Mrs. Munkers was very active in her commu nity. She was a member o f the Heppner Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, board member o f the Mor row County Art Society, Neighborhood Center South Morrow County, Morrow County Fair S uperinten dent, and she served on the M orrow County Election Committee for many years. Early in her son’s lives she was a Cub Scout Leader and also coached Little League Baseball. Bebe loved roses and had some o f the most beautiful in Heppner. She became a life member in the Garden Club. During her many years o f membership she tied thousands o f bows for the Christm as Wreath fundraiser and other com munity activities. She had a wonder ful talent for painting, cook ing, canning and flow er arranging. Over the years Bebe won m any ribbons at M orrow County fairs. O ver the y ears she was employed by the Morrow County School District and M urray’s Drugs. She loved to socialize while bowling or playing golf. She also loved to play cards and dominoes. M rs. M unkers is surv iv ed by: sons, Don Munkers and his wife Sheila o f Bums and Gary Munkers and his wife Martha of Lex ington; brother Gene Shar rard o f V ancouver, WA; "W here Friends M eet" District Board both for 18 years. He was a member o f the Oregon Wheat Growers League and was awarded Soil Conservation “ Man of the Year” in 1977. He was also a lifetime member of H ope L u th eran C h u rch in Heppner, o f which he helped build as w ell as helping to build T rinity Lutheran Church in Herm- iston. Mr. Majeske enjoyed hunting, tellin g sto ries, w orking in the shop and most o f all being with his family. He is survived by: daughters. Deb Ropp and her husband Vilas o f Lex ington, and Ginger O ’Brien o f H eppner; daughter in law, Shirley M ajeske o f St. Helens; sister, Audrey Mounts o f Gresham; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numer ous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his wife o f 50 years Alice Majeske; son, Eugene F. “Gene” Don M ajeske; sister Pat Majeske Wright; and nephew Chris Eugene F. “Gene” Wright. Walter Blaine May Sr. Walter Blaine May Sr. died on Sunday, Novem ber 8 , 2009, at the Kadlec M edical C enter in Rich land, Washington at the age o f 86 years. He w as born on March 25th 1923 near On tario to parents, Blaine and Efifie Stone May. He was a longtime resident o f Grant County, living in Prairie City and Bates. The past 15 years he had lived in Heppner. He w o rk ed for the E d w ard H ines Lum ber Co. for over 30 years as a die sel mechanic. His hobbies included: hunting, garden ing, carpentry, and wood crafts. On Novem ber 25, 1943, he m arried Jew ell Benintendi. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Jewell May in 2005; three sisters, Grace, Iva, and Edna; and two brothers M elvin and Mark. He is survived by: sons, W alter M ay Jr., o f Hermiston, James May of John Day, and Rick May o f Irrigon; daughter, Susan Rees o f Sacramento, CA; brothers, Clarence and Jess; three sisters, Evelyn, Vera, and Esther; nine grandchil dren; and 20 great-grand children. A viewing will be held on Thursday and Fri day, November 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bums Mortuary in Herm iston. A M em orial Ser vice will be held on Satur day, November 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Life Center in Heppner. A p riv a te b u rial will be held at the Canyon City Cemetery in Canyon City.
