Winning against Pilot Rock, the score was 25 is, 25 19.and25 4. Winning this match gave Heppner the chance to play for the third place in league conference. W inning 25 - 17, 14 - 2 5 ,2 5 16, and 25 18 put the Mustangs third in the district and going to state. Stats for the games were impressive: Joanna Patton with 22 kills, 13 blocks, and 34 of 36 serves; Brynna Rust with 17 kills and two blocks; Lindsay Cutsforth with eight kills and two blocks; Taighler Dougherty w ith 12 kills and seven blocks; Bailey Ben- net w ith 16 of 16 serves; and Jessica Hughes with 70 assists for the day. Weston Played El gin to determine the first and second seed, with El gin w inning the first seed. State playoffs for Heppner will be Saturday, November 7, at 1:00. They will be playing St. Mary ’s in Medford. Football program to host spaghetti feed A spaghetti feed w ill be held from 5:30-7 p.m., before the home M ustangs’ game against Enterprise. Spaghetti will also be served during halftime. The menu w ill include spaghetti, salad, bread, cookies and a drink. The feed will be put on by the football pro gram. lone football seniors honor Kendrick Cardinals to play for league championship The lone C a rd i nals kept their w inning streak alive with a 44-22 win over rival Echo on Friday, October 30, in lone. The w in moved the Cards’ season record to 8-0 (5-0 in the Big Sky Conference) and sets up a showdown w ith Sherman County this Friday night for the league championship. The Cardinals had 337 yards o f total offense to 2 11 for the Cougars, w ho were held to 94 yards on the ground. "We finally had to play a w hole game w ith the first team,” said Coach Ste fani. “The kids came in sky high and maybe they were a little too fired up.” He did note that the defense had a good effort. “The defense played great. They did their jobs really well.” Gunner Jessen led in tackles with 11 (6 solo) while Alex Fetterhoff and RJ Ramos each had 10 and Eric Jepsen added eight. T h e C a r d in a l s look forward to traveling to Sherman County on Fri day night w ith a first place trophy on the line. “After years and years and years o f being second, third or fourth and just missing the playoffs, the kids realize this is a big game. It would be nice to put a first place trophy in the trophy case,” said Coach Stefani. The Cards fell to the red-hot Helix G riz zlies in the District title game as the Lady Grizzlies captured their fourth con secutive district champion ship. The Lady Cardinals will host the number three seed from the Old Oregon League, Pine Eagle, at 6 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, November 4, in the new ly refurbished lone High School gym. OSAA ticket prices ($6 for adults, $4 for students) w ill apply for the game. The winner o f that game will advance earn a road trip to Crane to take on the winner o f the High Desert League, Crane. Putting first things first, the Lady Cards need ed to punch their ticket to district on Thursday when The lone volleyball team placed second at districts in Umatilla last Saturday. G am e one was tight with the score tied ten tim es before Briana Peterson served two aces in a row on point 19 and 20 to help the Cards pull away to a 25-20 win. In game two, the Lady Cardinals set Sherm an County on their heels, running out to a commanding 17-3 lead before cruising to a 2 5 -14 win. Vanessa Ziliani had five kills and five aces while Beth Morter added four kills and Briana Pe terson notched four aces. Sherman County took the early lead in game three but the Cards came roaring back to take the match and assure themselves a state berth and a home playoff game. T hat win set up a show dow n with Helix for the district champion ship. In their previous two meetings, lone had pushed Helix to the edge but could not take the win. On this day, there w ould be no such suspense as the Lady Grizzlies played some of the best volleyball of the year. Helix won game one, 25-14. In game two, lone led 19-11 and was at game point with the score 24-21 in their favor but the Lady Grizzlies came back to win 27-25. The Lady Cards put up a valiant effort in game three but Helix had the mo mentum winning the game 25-19 to take the match in straight sets.
