C all 541 - 980-5045, $ 169,500 Dear Representative, I am writing on behalf of the Heppner FFA Chapter to explain our thoughts about Senate Bill 5519. Although you know w hat this bill consists of manually, there is no way you are aware of how it affects the leadership clubs of Oregon. So please let my thoughts fill you in as to how this bill affects Oregon’s kids. As a third year member of Oregon FFA, I know every aspect of what this program provides for kids. Oregon FFA has nearly 4,600 members that are directly affected by this bill. This doesn’t count the numerous members in FBLA, DECCA, Skills USA and other valuable organizations. Being our chap ter’s newly elected historian, my duties require me to keep an accurate record of our chapter’s history. If this bill continues to go on, our chapter may not have a history. “Why?” you ask. Well being from a small town, our school just received fund ing to support an Agriculture program three years ago. The last thing we need is state directors jobs cut. This will come back to individual chapters and affect their opportunities. So as you can very well tell, I am concerned to the utmost about this bill. Every year these organizations fight to keep the legislators from cutting the Student Leadership De velopment Center’s funding. Without these officials, we have no one to organize and maintain our organizations, at the state level. This leads to the decline of members in not only the FFA, but the other organizations as well. You can ask just about any adult dealing with America’s children and they will very well tell you that these leadership clubs supplement children with necessary qualities and skills. I have personally talked to many adults who explained in great detail how important it is to know the qualities that they learned, just in high school. To talk about the FFA, it has opportunities to learn about leadership, busi ness management, parliamentary procedure, all about livestock and crop production, along with so much more. This is only to explain the FFA, and not the other organizations involved that will not have a state leadership team, if this bill is not passed. Please take into your thoughts how this bill will affect a huge aspect of our society today. It will not only cut jobs, but deprive America’s young adults o f crucial skills that are hard to come by in our world today. I know that with your support o f SB 5519, it will affect the Heppner FFA Chapter, as well as the other 103 chapters in the state. This bill is needs to be passed- thank you for your time and for your support. Devin Robinson Heppner FFA Chapter Dear Legislator, FFA is a great organization for the youth o f our state. If you cut the budget, you are in turn taking oppor tunities from us, to be involved in an organization that is positive. The FFA is a great experience for everyone, it gives you a feeling o f im portance and it’s also a lot o f fun. W hy w ould anyone want to take that away from som eone? FFA teaches you about what the real w orld is going to be like. It also readies you for college and gives you a head start for the world. By cutting the budget you take the leadership o f seven state youth organizations jo b s away, which would take aw ay a huge part o f the w hole organization (SLDC). O pportunities that w ould be affected for FFA w ould in clude: State FFA convention, and state contests that the m em bers take part in. I w ould hope that you w ouldn’t w ant to take that from them. Before you take these op portunities away, please give it some thought. Do the right thing- support SB5519. Willy Gentry H eppner FFA m em ber D ear State Representative, M y nam e is Brett H arrison and I am a part o f the Heppner FFA chapter. I have been a part o f the chapter for tw o years now. 1 was the chapter vice president last year and am currently our chapter sentinel. I believe in the FFA program and feel it teaches you m any different skills needed in life, such as public speaking, leadership, per sonal growth, and m anagem ent skills. So therefore this program is very im portant to m yself and many others. 1 b eliev e th at yo u sh o u ld su p p o rt SB 5519 which will supply funding for the Student Leadership Developm ent Center. These people are im portant to our organization because they are the ones scheduling and planning our events and contests throughout the year.
