Representative Smith promotes Frontier Pharmacy Legislation Often real solutions to governm ent problem s take tim e to im plem ent. Such w as the case w ith Senate Bill 735-A, a piece o f legislation that modifies adm inistrative provisions for the Oregon Prescription D rug Program (O PD P). Specifically, SB 735-A al lows OPDP to establish dif ferent prices for pharmacies in rural areas to maintain statew ide access to the pro gram (Section 1. Item 6). B ack in A u g u st 2008 Murray’s Drug, a lo cal frontier pharmacist, told Rep Smith they where be ing asked by OPDP to dis pense medicine at a reim bursement rate insufficient to cover their fixed costs. Compounding the problem, local school teachers, who wanted to purchase their m edicine locally, had to leave the community to get their prescriptions filled. The O regon Pre scrip tio n D rug Program was not compensating its frontier pharm acists at a rate necessary to cover their actual cost o f dispensing medications. Compounding the problem, the legislature in 2007 passed legislation requiring local school dis tricts to provide prescrip tion drug coverage using Oregon Prescription Drug Program. SB 735-A should be up for a H ouse vote Monday. Red Hats to meet June 18 YOUR ASSISTANCE NEEDED. I need help with a new book project.
