The Mustangs lost both games in the double header. - Photo by Sandy Matthews HHS golf team to host 12th annual three man scramble H e p p n e r H ig h School go lf team will be sponsoring the 12th annual three-person scram ble at Willow Creek Country Club on Sunday, April 26. Play will be a three- person scrambler using the Oldsmobile Scoring Meth od. The team handicaps have been established using this method and allowing a maximum handicap o f 12 per team. Cost o f the tourna ment is $35 per player and is open to the first 27 teams. Prizes will be awarded for first through third place (net and gross). Tee prizes will be given for every hole. KP and long putt prizes will also be awarded Registration forms are available at H eppner TV. Registration will be ac cepted the day o f the event from 8 a.m. until tee time at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served following play. Proceeds from the scram ble will benefit the HHS golf team. The girls were only three points behind the first place Huskies. The girls finished first in only one event - the 4x400-meter relay - but still m anaged 95 team points. Erin Price led the Mustangs w ith th ree second place individual finishes in the 400-m eter dash, 100-me- ter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles. Price was caught from behind in an exciting 400 race that say first and second separated by only .03 o f a second. Catherine M cE lligott raced to tw o third-place finishes in the 1500 meter run and the 300- meter hurdles. The M us tangs finished two-three-five in the 300 hurdles w ith Brynna Rust getting fifth. Keshawna Talamantes led the field events with places in two events - sixth in the shot put and third in the discus. Carrie Haguewood m atched her season best o f 4 ’ 10” in the high jump while finishing second, and Vivian Thompson jumped her personal best o f 30’9” in the triple jump on her way to a second place finish in the event. Jordan Wright had a personal best m ark o f 134’5” in the javelin and finished fifth. Jordan Hat field and Spencer Palmer finished fourth and seventh in the 800 meters, and Alex Pickles finished sixth in the long jump and seventh in the Mustangs host first track meet of season The Heppner High School track team hosted their first meet o f the season on Tuesday, April 14. The Mustangs hosted 10 other teams on their home track. Several Heppner ath letes got season best marks despite the cold weather. Carmen Lee ran her fast est time o f the year in the 100-meters while finishing second. She also recorded her best long jum p o f the year and finished third. Ke shawna Talamantes racked up a second place finish in the javelin and two fourth place finishes (shot put and discus). Catherine McEllig ott and Brynna Rust finished one-two in the 300-meter h u rd les, and M cE lligott also won the 1500-meters. Erin Price finished first in the 200-meters and the 400- meters and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles. The girls’ 4x400-meter re lay team (Price, McElligott, Lane, 2. Butter Creek Lane, 3. Heppner/W illow Creek Lane, 4. Lexington/Sand H ollow Lane, 5. R uggs/ HHS Booster Club Lane, 6. Kilkenny Lane. Blocks lin ing the track have already been painted to recognize past state champions. The junior high and high school track team are also sp o n so rin g a youth track meet to coincide with the event. Registration for the youth track meet be gins at 12:45. The track dedication and recognition ceremony will be held at ap proximately 1 p.m. with the youth track meet to follow. The youth meet is for ages 0 through grade five. Events will be long ju m p , tennis ball throw , 25-m eter, 50-m eter, 100- meter, and 400-meter runs. Ribbons will be given to all children who participate. Ladies Play Day results Ladies Play Day was held on Tuesday, April 14, at the Willow Creek Country Club. Jor dan Wright finished first in the javelin, second in the shot put and third in the discus. In the shot put, Mark M cCabe was second and Deniz Kalyon was fifth. In the discus, Spencer Palmer was sixth and McCabe was seventh. Brandon G arcia finished third in the javelin. Alex Pickles finished third in the long jump and fourth in the triple jum p. Bryan Holland got third in the 400- meters and fifth in the long jump. Spencer Palmer got second in the 800-meters, and Eric Vogel was second in the 3000-meters and third in the 1500-meters. Heppner Mustang Wacy Coil takes to the mound after several Dedication to be held for HHS track The Heppner High School and Ju n io r High track teams will be honor ing past coaches and a past administrator for their dedi cation to the Heppner track program. Enough funds were raised through generous donations to build a six-lane, rubberized track at Heppner High School in 2005. The track will be dedicated on Sunday, May 3, to the fol low ing people who were instrumental in building the track tradition at Heppner High School: Don McClure, Dean N affziger, D orothy Agee, Dale Conklin, Chuck Starr, Phyllis “ Payne" Ar- mitage, Susan Healy Hisler, Steve Brownfield, and Wade Smith. Track donors, in cluding past state champi ons and their families, will also be recognized. Lanes at the track are: 1. Padberg triple jump. The Mustangs have two meets remaining before their district rrieet on May 8th. They will travel to Moro for the Sherman Invitational and to Hermiston for the K iw anis In v itatio n a l on Saturday, April 25th. Seven team s were entered in this age group from Hood River, Baker City, H erm iston and Tri- Cities. On Saturday, Pend leton 14U went 3-0 in pool play beating the Tri-Cities Storm, Tri-Cities Ringors and Hood River Heat. On Sunday, they made it into bracket play with a bye in the first round and played the Oregon Outlaws in the second round, beating them 6-2 which placed Pendleton I4U in the cham pionship game. The team ended up winning the championship game 7-1 against the Tri- Cities Storm. Baily Bennett pitched four and 2/3 innings for the Pendleton 14U. giv ing up only three runs in a 10-5 win. The team has seven m ore tournam ents scheduled at this time. \
