Rietmann, McCabe announce engagement Shelley R ietm ann and A dam M cC abe Mark and Tami Rietmann o f Heppner and Ashley and Cathy McCabe o f lone announce the engagement o f their children, Shelley Kathryn Rietmann and Adam Ashley McCabe. Shelley is a 2002 graduate of Heppner High School and graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Pacific University in Forest Grove. She will graduate w ith a doctor of physical therapy degree from Pacific University on May 23, 2009. Adam graduated from lone High School in 2002. He earned bachelor degrees in agricultural systems man agement and Ag business in 2006 from the University o f Idaho in Moscow, ID. Adam is employed with the Morrow County Grain Growers in lone. The couple will be married June 27, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Heppner. Morrow SWCD/MC Weed Advisory Board to meet A M orrow SWCD Board and quarterly Weed A dvisory Board m eeting will be held Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. at the Ag Ser vice Building in Heppner. Mr. Bill’s Traveling Trivia returns Mr. Bill will be ar- riving in Heppner for an other night o f great fun and laughter at the Elks Lodge at 7 p.m. on April 25. Breana and C hristopher Sykes -Photo by Dennis Schwartz Breana Lynn Anderson and Christopher David Sykes were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Pendleton Free Methodist Church. The Reverend Scott Little officiated. The bride is the daughter o f Randy and Barbara Anderson, Condon, and Barb Sorenson, Wisconsin. The groom is the son o f David and April Sykes, Heppner. Honorary maid o f honor was Alyse Anderson, sis ter of the bride, who was not able to attend. Bridesmaids were Stacey Jeter, Condon, the bride’s sister-in-law to be; Jessica Harrington, Portland, the bride’s step-sister; Kelly Ingle, Pendleton, Joan McCabe, Portland, Joanna Nirschl, Independence, OR, Tessa Nicholson, LaGrande, and Sandi Hainlines, Idaho, all friends o f the bride. Best man was Cameron Sweeney, Heppner, friend o f the groom. Groomsmen were Andrew Sykes, Heppner, brother o f the groom; Jim Schlaich and Bill Schlaich, both of Heppner, Derek Gunderson, Baker City, Chuck Mosher and Jake Houle, both o f Pendleton, all friends of the groom. Flow er girl was Sydney M osher, Pendleton, daughter o f Chuck Mosher. Ring bearer was Brock Hisler, Heppner, son o f Shaun and Stephanie Hisler, friends o f the groom. Ushers were Earl Anderson, Condon, brother of the bride, Ryan Heath, Pendleton, Chris Goble, Charleston, IL, and Travis Bellamy, Lexington, friends o f the groom. Candle lighters were Allison Sykes and Camille Sykes, both Portland, sisters o f the groom. Soloist was Carie Cary, who sang “Valentine” to ac company the unity candle and sand ceremony; pianist was Liz Wolotina and Dan Lange was in charge o f the sound system. Music also included “What a Wonderful Word” and “Only Time.” The processional was “She’s Got a Way About Her” and the recessional was “Queen Bee.” The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a strapless white satin pick-up ball gown with a cha pel train and a lace-up bodice accented with red embroidery and a red sash. She wore a finger-tip veil with a red ribbon border held in place by a silver tiara with red rhinestones, along with matching jewelry, and carried a cascading bouquet o f red roses, white tulips and alstromaria accented with stalks o f wheat and raffia. The bridesmaids wore strapless red satin pick-up gowns made by the groom’s mother and Jo Wickham, Port land, aunt o f the bride, and carried hand-tied bouquets of roses and tulips with wheat and raffia accents. The flower girl wore a white satin pick-up dress with a red sash and red rose appliques. The candle lighters wore strapless knee-length black satin dresses with red sashes. Special guests were the bride’s grandparents, Nor man and Marilyn Froman, Condon, and Dennis Schwartz, an uncle of the bride, who served as the wedding photogra pher. Deb Airoldi with “Beautiful Beginnings,” Pendleton, coordinated the ceremony. A dinner reception with music and dancing fol lowed at the Pendleton Elks Lodge, which was decorated in red, white and black with a heart motif. The five-tiered red velvet wedding cake, decorated with white fondant icing and red ribbon, was made by the bride’s step-mother. She and the bride’s father also catered the reception dinner. The couple is at home in Pendleton, where she is an elementary education student and he is the owner of Rapid Print printing shop. They plan a September wedding trip to Orlando, FL. Awana Grand Prix Races to be held The Heppner Awana Club will be sponsoring a Grand Prix race on Thurs day, April 16, for all Awana kids and their families. The event w ill be at W illow Creek Baptist Church, start ing at 5:30 p.m. Weigh in will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a hot dog meal will be provided begin ning at 5:45 p.m. Opening cerem onies will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the races to begin shortly thereafter. . Pettyjohn, 87, o f lone died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Pioneer Memorial Hospi tal in Heppner. S h e w as bom November 5, 1921, in lone, the daughter o f Ernest and Lena Baker Lundell. She was raised and attend Helen M. ed school at lone Pettyjohn through her junior year. She moved to Heppner her senior year where she graduated from high school in 1939. O n D e c e m b e r 3, 1939 she married Paul G. Pettyjohn Sr. in Walla Walla, WA. The couple lived at H eppner and H erm iston before settling in lone. They bought the oil distributor ship from her parents in 1947. She worked as book keeper for the company until it was sold in 1988. Mrs. Pettyjohn was a member o f the lone Com m unity C hurch, the lone Booster Club, and a 60 year m em ber o f the R ebecca Lodge. In her early years she belonged to the Meca Club in lone. She was a very generous supporter o f the lone community. She loved having her family around and enjoyed all o f their ac tivities. Survivors include: her daughter, D i anne Hams and her h u sb a n d W ayne; son. Paul G. “Skip” Pettyjohn Jr. and his wife Barbara all o f lone; grandchildren, Kim, Kelly, K ris tina, D eena, Jeff, Craig, and Shawn; 19 great-grandchil dren; and four great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, three sisters and a grand daughter. Funeral service for Mrs. Pettyjohn was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the lone Com munity Church. Concluding service and burial followed at High View Cemetery in lone. Kindergarten Roundup to be held at HES Heppner Elementary School will be holding their Kindergarten Roundup for students for the 2009-10 school year on April 21. A ppointm ents are available from 12-4 p.m. and will last approximately 30 minutes. Child will meet M rs. M o rris, have th eir eyes checked, and do a fun project. Parents need to bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and em ergency contact infor mation. Chamber lunch meeting speaker announced This week’s Chamber lunch meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9 at the St. Patrick’s Senior Center at noon. Mark Mulviill, new superintendent o f Umatilla- Morrow ESD will be speaking. Murray’s will be catering the box lunches for this week The meal cost is $9.
