With the wins, the Lady Cards league mark improved to 2-2. A fast-m oving flu bug hit the lone team mid week, putting big question marks into the starting lineup w hen Sherman County came to town on Friday night. Two girls were missing and several others crawled off their couches prior to game time. But the Cardinal of fense was clicking regard less as lone jumped out to a 10-5 first quarter lead and built it to an 18-11 margin at halftime. S h e rm a n C o u n ty pulled to within three after hitting back to back three pointers early in the third quarter. The Huskies took their first lead o f the game with 5:17 remaining when a basket put them up by one. Their biggest lead o f the game was 36-33 with just under three minutes to go. S te f a n ie A rc h e r came up big under the bas ket when she put back her own offensive rebound and w as fouled on the play. When she hit the free throw, she tied the game back up. Shortly after that, Makenna Ramos stole the ball and got it to Beth Morter for the lay in and the Cards were up by two. T h e L ad y C ard s missed two free throws and the Huskies missed a pair in the final two minutes as lone clung to their two point lead. With seven seconds remain ing, Mary Rietman made a free throw' to build a slightly safer margin of three. Sher man County was not able to get a shot oft' in the time remaining, giving the Lady Cards the hard-fought, first w in o f the season 39-36. "We finally put full four quarters together for the first time this year. The fact that I had two seniors home w ith a nasty stomach flu and two other starters sick on the bench made for a very entertaining game.” The Cardinals were on the road bright and early the next morning, traveling to Prineville to take on Cen tral Christian. The flu kept senior starter, Tiana Cama rillo, home for the day. The W hite Tigers were shooting well in the early going, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. The Cardinals w hittled aw ay and when Beth Morter hit a three near the end o f the first quarter, they took an 11-8 lead. Thir teen for 14 free throw shoot ing in the second quarter helped the Lady Cards build a 29-20 halftim e lead. The second half was not kind to the White Tigers as the lone team had their best quarter o f the season in the third, outscoring their opponent 17-4 and finished strong to win the game 57-25. "T his was a good weekend for us. We have been w o rk in g on b u ild ing our confidence in our shooting and it is starting to show,” said Coach Mike Garrett. "We were 17 for 20 from the free throw line in the first half. That is a con siderable improvement from the beginning o f the season. We take a lot of pride in our ability to play good defense and we switched back and forth from man to man and zone and the kids got very aggressive in the second half and held them to five total points.” The Lady Cards fin ished w ith three players in double figures. Stefani A rcher and Beth M orter shared scoring honors w ith 12 and Tyree Svetich added 10. Stefanie A rcher had seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
