Irrigon begins supplying water
distribution system from new city well
The City o f Irrigon
began supplying water from
the new city well. Well #3,
into the water distribution
system on October 1. The
City is feeding the w ater
from Well #3 to reduce
the nitrates in the drinking
water. The nitrate level has
now dropped from about 14
parts per million o f nitrate to
less than three parts per mil
lion. The US Environmental
Protection Agency has set
the maximum contaminate
level for nitrates at 10 parts
per million.
With the new well on
line, the water in the Irrigon
water system meets all state
and federal regulations for
drinking water. The City of
Irrigon waited to ensure that
the system would operate
properly and the nitrate level
would drop and hold before
announcing the change.
There is still much
more to be done with the
Water Improvement Project,
according to Public Works
Director, Keith White. The
new reservoir needs to be
constructed and more dis
tribution piping needs to be
installed. The city wanted
however, to start furnishing
the low nitrate water to the
families on the Irrigon water
system as soon as possible
so that people could safely
use the water for all pur
poses, including consump
tion by infants and pregnant
mothers.
Matthews joins Heritage Land Company
Heritage Land Com
pany announces the addition
o f Skip Matthews to its real
estate sales force, specializ
ing in farm and ranch sales.
“Skip has been a leader in
agriculture here in Morrow
and G illiam counties for
over 20 years,” said Kim
Cutsforth, principle broker
and owner o f Heritage Land
Company, “ We are pleased
to announce that he will
bring that knowledge and
experience to our office to
assist local producers with
their real estate needs.”
Matthews had previ
ously been employed by the
federal ag office. “ When the
federal door closed on my
career here in H eppner I
was looking for something
that I could do to continue
to stay in the area and still
be involved in agriculture,"
said Matthews. “Real estate
seemed a logical step to that
end. When a person is inter
ested in agricultural property
in the area they need to get
all the information they can
to make an informed deci
sion. In addition, the folks
selling
p ro p e rty
need to be
assured
that their
property is

in Heppner with his wife
Sandy and their son Don

W hitney attending Boise
State University. Matthews
also serves as the local

president and is the presi
dent o f the Willow Creek
Park District board of direc
tors. He has been an Elks
member since 1989 and has
recently joined the IOOF
lodge in Heppner.
Heritage Land Com
pany, the oldest real estate
o ffice in south M orrow
County is excited about the
addition. “ We try to stay
involved in the complicated
agricultural market here,
there is a lot to understand
when selling or buying a
ranch. Property owners can
feel confident that Heritage
Land Co. will help them
make informed marketing
decisions. Skip will be a
great asset to our office.”
