To the Editor: Here are five groups that Obama has pledged sup port to: -Environmentalists — who will not be satisfied until every manufacturing plant and oil well is closed down and all o f America is turned into a state park. -“Peace Nics” — who would rather give our country to our enemies than fight and sacrifice for what has been handed to them on a silver platter. -Homosexuals — who will not be satisfied until there is mandatory curriculum in our schools and youth organizations promoting the homosexual lifestyle as being healthy and normal. -Illegal Aliens - who have been promised free health care on top o f everything else they are being given. -People who support the killing o f unborn babies without conditions or consequence. So, if you want the voices o f these groups running our country, Obama is your man. John Russell Salem BMCC fall term begins Monday Fall Term for Blue Mountain Community Col lege gets underw ay Monday, September 29. It is not too late to get registered for classes both on campus or online. Residents who are interested in going to col lege or returning to college after a hiatus are encour aged to give Anne Morter a call. She offers academic advising and can instruct students in the step neces sary to w orking tow ards their goal. With many class es now offered online, there isn’t a better time than now to get started. Locally, a couple of classes are scheduled. Joy Bittinger will be offering her popular aerobics class in lone again, starting Sep tember 29. The class meets M onday and W ednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Cardinal Fitness Club on Main Street in lone. Janet H olland has sch ed u led an o th er Sand Cast BirdBath class where students will create a unique piece o f yard art in ju st two Monday evening ses sions. P re-registration is required so that supplies will be on hand. The class is set for Monday, September 29, and Monday, October 6, at the lone High School greenhouse. Computer Basics is on tap for Thursday eve nings, October 2-23 from 4-6 p.m. at lone High School. Handgun Proficien cy, the class required to fulfill requirements for ob taining a concealed weapons permit, was a late addition to the schedule. It is set for this Saturday, Septem ber 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boardman Center of BMCC. The cost o f the class is $41. Anyone interested in joining this class must get registered prior to Saturday morning. S c h e d u l i n g fo r W inter Term w ill begin soon. Heppner High School to hold coffee and cookie open house Derek and Amy Gunderson Amy Nicole Drake and Derek James Gunderson were married in a double-ring ceremony on July 5, 2008 at the bride’s family home near Heppner. Attending the bride were Kristin Marshall of Hep pner as maid o f honor. Bridesmaids were Brooke Sweeney o f Heppner, Stephanie Clough, Trisha Adams, and Josie Keyes, all o f Portland, and Amy Papineau o f Bend, all friends o f the bride. The parents of the bride are Doug and Carley Drake o f Heppner. Attending the groom were Brent Gunderson of La Grande, his brother and best man. Groomsmen Casey Evans and Chris Sykes o f Pendleton, Jared Eckman of Prineville, Shane Matheny o f Heppner, and Jeff Waterland o f Portland, all friends of the groom. Parents o f the groom are David and Tricia Gun derson o f heppner. The flower girl was Eva Martin of lone. The couple was married by the bride’s aunt, Reverend Gwen Drake of Hillsboro. Ushers were Corey Miller and Jake Roy of Hep pner. Kevin Drake, brother of the bride, and Jeff Currin, both of Eugene, were in charge o f the sound system and music. Taking care o f the guest book were Marcy Miller and Jill Sorey, both o f Heppner. The bride wore a one-piece, A-line, strapless gown with a corseted back. It featured a silver lace overlay that created an asymmetrical lowered waist. A satin empire band sprinkled with crystals decorated the bodice. The satin skirt was upswept at the side to reveal the lace hem. Lace appliqué adorned the chapel train. She carried a flowing bouquet o f w hite orchids. The maid o f honor wore a silver halter style dress. The bridesmaids wore knee length, graphite gray halter style dresses and carried bouquets o f assorted orange flowers. The groom and groomsmen wore dark gray pin striped suits accented with an orange tie and handker chief. The reception following the wedding featured the live band, “Taste,” front Eugene. The bride is a graduate of Oregon State University and Mt. Hood Community College. She is working at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Baker City as a surgical techni cian. The groom was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in December o f 2007. He will study range management at Eastern Oregon University. The couple lives in Baker City. Along with his elk (Page ONE), 15 year old Ryan Bennett shot a turkey (spring), deer and antelope with his bow this year. -Con tributed Photos DA’s Report Morrow' County District Attorney Elizabeth Bal lard has released the following report: -Ryan Payne, 30, was convicted o f criminal mis chief in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced to 180 days incarceration with 175 days suspended, 24 months bench probation, other numerous conditions, and pay $863 in fines, fees and assessments. -Jason Alen Bothwell, 23, was conv icted o f theft in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail w ith 172 days suspended. 18 months bench probation, complete 40 hours o f community service, other numerous conditions, and pay $3,383 in fines, fees and assessments.
