Eastern Oregon Livestock Show
Ladies Play Day results
Ladies Play Day was held on Tuesday, June 17, at
the Willow Creek Country Club. Results are as follows:

Low gross of the field was Pat Edmundson w ith a
score of 39. Low net of the field was Nancy Propheter with
a score of 24. Least putts of the field was Eva Kilkenny
with 15 putts.
Flight A winners w ere: Karen Thompson and Corol
Mitchell with a low gross tie of 44; Mary Schoonover with
a low net score of 33; and Virginia Grant for least putts
with 18.
Flight B winners were: Jean Strange with a low
gross score of 45; Lorrene Montgomery with a low net
score of 32; and Lynnea Sargent for least putts with 16.
Flight C winners were: Suzanne Jepsen with a low
gross score of 49; Bernice Lott with a low net score of 33;
and Joanne Barbee for least putts with 19.

iary hosted an appreciation luncheon for the lone Schools
teaching staff. Fifteen teachers were in attendance. A lunch

2008 Dawns Early Light

Five local youth traveled to Union County on June
4-7 to attend the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show. Rep
resenting the Heppner FFA Chapter were Brynna Rust,
Jessica Hughes, and Brett Harrison.
They competed in conformation and showmanship
for both beef/sheep breeding and market classes, as well
as livestock judging, both individually and as a team.
Brynna Rust received a first place banner for
the Heppner FFA Chapter for herdsmanship. Brett Har
rison received a first place banner as well as a belt buckle
for individual high point livestock judging. The three man
team also received a third place banner for team livestock
judging.
Also present was Heppner FFA Advisor, Beth
Dickenson, as well as Jared Gorham and Makenzi Hughes
who participated at the 4-H level.

John Day Fossil Beds National Monument will of
fer two ranger-conducted hikes into the spectacular Blue
Basin fossil beds. The two-hour hikes will feature the
geologic landscape and fossil history of the basin.
The hikes will be offered on Saturdays, June 28 and
July 5, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Blue Basin trailhead,
located three miles north of the Thomas Condon Visitor
Center. The visitor center is located nine miles west of
Dayville. Participants should bring good hiking shoes, a
water bottle, and dress for the weather.

Kinzua Lunch Group to meet July 18
The Kinzua Lunch Group met at the Service Creek
Lodge,LLC on June 13. The following enjoyed a great
lunch and a time of visiting. Bob and MaryLee Britt,
Cenone and Yap Benson, OL and Jean Ann Adams, Bon
nie Campbell, Bill Potter, Montell McDonald, Annabelle
Gubser, Rollene Allen and Marilyn Garcia. The group will
met July 18 at Prineville at the Apple Peddler in Prineville
at 11:30.

Alumni Football
Game held
The second annual
Alumni Football Game was
held on Saturday, June 14 in
Heppner. Twenty-six former
players joined in to form two
teams. The blue jersey team
won 6-0 in an injury free
game. $1,700 was raised
with all the proceeds going
to the Heppner High School
football team.
