Rep­ resenting the Heppner FFA Chapter were Brynna Rust, Jessica Hughes, and Brett Harrison. They competed in conformation and showmanship for both beef/sheep breeding and market classes, as well as livestock judging, both individually and as a team. Brynna Rust received a first place banner for the Heppner FFA Chapter for herdsmanship. Brett Har­ rison received a first place banner as well as a belt buckle for individual high point livestock judging. The three man team also received a third place banner for team livestock judging. Also present was Heppner FFA Advisor, Beth Dickenson, as well as Jared Gorham and Makenzi Hughes who participated at the 4-H level. John Day Fossil Beds National Monument will of­ fer two ranger-conducted hikes into the spectacular Blue Basin fossil beds. The two-hour hikes will feature the geologic landscape and fossil history of the basin. The hikes will be offered on Saturdays, June 28 and July 5, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Blue Basin trailhead, located three miles north of the Thomas Condon Visitor Center. The visitor center is located nine miles west of Dayville. Participants should bring good hiking shoes, a water bottle, and dress for the weather. For more information call 541-987-2333. Twenty-six former players joined in to form two teams. The blue jersey team won 6-0 in an injury free game. $1,700 was raised with all the proceeds going to the Heppner High School football team.
