lone track caps off
successful season
The lone track team capped a successful season
with performances at the 1A/2A/3 A State Meet last week
end in Monmouth. Scorching temperatures were a problem
especially on Friday when the mercury neared 100 degrees,
but the athletes coped as best as they could.
Kylee Svetich had the best individual performance
for lone, coming home with three state medals. She sur
prised the field with a runner up finish in the triple jump,
sailing 32’10.75 inches on her last jump o f the day, a new
PR by over eight inches. As luck would have it, her two
individual events were scheduled at almost the same time.
She had to check in and then out at the triple jump to go run
the finals in the 200. Finishing fifth in the 200, she equaled
her PR set the day before in the prelims but reported back
to the triple jump with tired legs. “1 started out awful. But
then I took a break before the finals and things got better,”
she said. A nearby car fire and resulting hubbub provided
more distraction but Svetich was determined to finish her
high school career on a high note. Her third medal of the
meet came in the first event of the day when she ran anchor

on Friday by finishing third in their heat. On Saturday,
the girls ran close to their season best time to take fifth
place (54.68.)
The boys 4X400 team (Alan Rietmann, Justin
Archer, Clay Morter and Cory Peterson) improved their
season best time in Friday’s preliminary heats to 3:43.

in a competitive field, did not place in the 800 meters but
knocked his PR down to 2:10.61.
Paul Hams struggled in the javelin when he was
not able to use his own javelin for the event due to a non
conformity. Hams, who had a season best throw o f 161-7
could not find a rhythm with the unfamiliar instrument and
did not make the finals.

Clay Morter had a disappointing day in the high
jump when he failed to clear 5’8” and didn't place. Morter
consistently jumped 5’ 10 this year and cleared 6 ’0 twice
in competition, but nothing went right at state.
Overall Coach Ryan Rudolf was pleased with his

is retiring!
That's right, Sharon Harrison,
honorable friend and Heppner's
