There are many people already ranked in state, but
they still have a very long way to go. The girl’s team would
like to win districts, but it is going to be a very tight race
between Elgin, Enterprise, Union, and Heppner.

April 1 6 - 18 marks the State Leadership Conference held
in Portland at the Lloyd Center area and convention center.
Students from around the state gather to compete in the
business arena, with public speaking, business subject mat
ter testing, entrepreneurial and management projects and
more. Heppner FBLA is asking Heppner businesses and in
dividuals to join forces with the club to fund the trip. Checks
can be made out to Heppner High School FBLA and sent
to the high school at P(> Box 67, Heppner. The club needs
to raise $500 more to cover this conference as well as a trip
earlier in the year to a National Leadership Conference and
Regional Skills Conference. For more information, contact
FBLA advisor, Darlene Marquardt or Heppner FBLA presi
dent, Ashley Wolff. -C o n trib u te d P h o to

The backyard o f Joe and JoAnne Burleson with
it’s bed of sunny daffodils and blooming fruit trees has
been chosen by the Heppner Garden Club for it’s first ever
Garden Highlight recognition.
The Burleson's labored to plant over 20 trees on
the rocky hillside behind their Hagar Street home in Hep
pner. Their terraced beds have season round interest with
red poppies, daisies, foxglove, roses and more.
A larger number o f potential honorees will be
eligible for the Garden Highlight award such as homes
outside city limits or yards with an exceptional seasonal
feature.
The City o f Heppner’s Yard o f the Month award
will begin in May this year due to our area's late spring.
For suggestions for either honor, contact Kay Proc
tor, 676-9827.
