Heppner was well represented at this year’s
Chess For Success State Tournament held in Portland
at the Convention Center. Friday’s play was for team
competition which Heppner middle school players
attended. Saturday was for individual qualifiers which
Kai Arbogast, Joe Jones, and Ross Cutsforth went for
the elementary competition and Shane Miles and Zach
H int/ went for the middle school grades. Everyone
won at least one o f the five games they played, and
Kai Arbogast won 3.5 games to place him in a four
way tie for third place in the K - 4th grade level. Shane
Miles and Zach Hintz played both as team members
and individuals, so they have 10 tough games under
their belts.
