All Awana Club members who have attended this year arc in\ ited to come and bring their family and friends. Each clubber w ill receive recognition, and those w ho have earned ribbons and other aw ards for completing handbooks will be honored. Dessert will be served at the conclusion o f the program. The l l lh annual Mustang Three Man Scramble will be held Sunday, April 13, at Willow Creek Country Club. Heppner/lone High School G olf will be sponsoring the event. Tee time is 9 a.m. and lunch will be served fol­ lowing play. The cost to enter the tournament is $35 per player. First through third place (net and gross) prizes will be awarded. Students traveled nine days visiting Berlin and Munich in Germany and Prague in the Czech Republic. H ig h lig h ts o f the trip included seeing the last rem aining section o f the Berlin Wall, the C harles Bridge in Prague, the for­ mer concentration camp of Dachau, and the castle o f Neuschwanstein, both near M unich. The group orga­ nized the trip through the Boston-based travel com ­ pany EF Tours. Friday’s play was for team competition which Heppner middle school players attended. Saturday was for individual qualifiers which Kai Arbogast, Joe Jones, and Ross Cutsforth went for the elementary competition and Shane Miles and Zach H int/ went for the middle school grades. Everyone won at least one o f the five games they played, and Kai Arbogast won 3.5 games to place him in a four­ way tie for third place in the K - 4th grade level. During the city visit o f Plzen, native Kristina (Tina) Tuzarova met up with the group and accompanied them on their tour for the morning. Tina was an lone foreign exchange student during the 2003-2004 school year and lived with the Joe and Jeri McElligott family. Three Heppner stu­ dents also acco m p an ied the lone group. If they choose to re­ quire a senior project, from each graduating class every senior has to perform a task of their own choice and can include many com m unity service projects. They can range anyw here from the restoration o f a public fa­ cility to the building o f a project such as a gazebo. If they choose the latter, students must com­ plete a goal requirem ent sign-off sheet that includes things from writing papers on w hat th o se s tu d e n t’s goals are to building their re­ sume. Annualized, this dividend is an increase o f 9.1% from the 2007 cash dividend payment o f $0.55 per share. This is the 23rd year in a row the Company has paid cash dividends. This is the first time the organi­ zation has paid a quarterly dividend. The board will continue to review its divi­ dend policy. Cash dividends, when and if declared, will typically be paid in April, July, October, and January. This trip was planned to broaden stu­ dents’ horizons and to find ways in which to improve their own school. First, the group was led on a tour of David Doug­ las High School in Portland, which has over 2,000 stu­ dents. The students had the privaledge o f meeting the school’s ASB and learned a plethora o f inform ation throughout the tour. They were impressed by the or­ ganization o f such a large learning in stitu tio n , and found the students to be quite welcoming. The students then progressed to Corbett High S ch o o l, lo cated in C o r­ bett. This school intrigued the students, as all o f the classes offered at Corbett are A dvanced Placem ent classes. Since the beginning o f the school year, seniors have been working hard to get their portfolios done by the April 1st deadline. A lthough the w ork may have been hard and time- consuming the entire gradu­ ating class at Heppner High School was able to meet this requirement. On April 9th and 10,h the seniors will present their portfolios to a board comprised o f school o fficials and com m unity members who will review and rate each individual based on what they illustrate in th eir p o rtfolios. They are the deciding factor in whether each student is truly w orthy to graduate high school. After these tours, the Heppner ASB has come up with many new ideas as to how to improve the school, including the painting o f inspirational quotes in the hallw ays, which they are hoping to accomplish before the school year ends. It was a learning ex­ perience for all involved for all involved, and an excel­ lent way for students to view the diversity of public schooling in Oregon. Heppner eighth graders to hold car wash The class o f 2012 (8,h graders) will be having a car w ash on Saturday, April 12, from noon to 6 p.m. in the back parking lot o f Les Schwab Tire Center. The car wash is being held to raise money for the 8th grade celebration coming up in May. There is no set price for this car wash but dona­ tions will he accepted.
