The Mustangs, now 8-2 on the year, will be at home against the Nestucca Bob cats, w ho beat Glendale 8-6, on Saturday, Nov ember 17, at 1 p.m. The Loggers took the opening kick-off and, unable to move the ball, had to punt with the Mustangs taking over at their own 45 yard line. After a false start penalty, Lane Bailey ran for three, Brent Eckman went for seven, and then Bailey ran for three more. On the fourth down Bailey went for seven more and a first down at the Scio 40 yard line. Bailey went for 13 yards and Eckman ran twice for 19 yards. Bailey then took it in from the eight for the touchdown. The two point conversion failed but the Mustangs led 6-0 midway through the first quarter. The d efen se held again and the M ustangs took over at their 41 after a punt and went back to work. Bailey went three times for 13 yards and Eckman ran for 12. After an illegal mo tion and an incomplete pass, Eckman went for seven and Bailey for eight yards to bring up fourth and one at the 36 as the first quarter ended. On the Loggers’ next possession, Nacho Elgueza- bal recovered a fumble at the Scio 48 yard line and the M ustangs w ere back in business. Eckman went for 15 yards on first dow n and after a delay o f game penalty, Bailey went for 16 more. After an incomplete pass and short gain by Spen cer Palmer, Bailey scored his third touchdown of the first half from 20 yards out. Palmer ran in the two point conversion to make it 22-0 midway through the second quarter. The defen se held again but the Mustangs gave it right back on an inter cepted pass that was brought back to the Heppner 33 yard ITlresìm ZEM] M line. The d id n 't w eaken though and they took over on downs at the 28 yard line. Bailey ran tw ice for 12 yards and alter an incomplete pass and a false start, Willy Gen try hit Eckman on a pass. Eckman outran the defense for a 65 yard touchdown. The two point conversion failed but the Mustangs had a 28-0 lead at the half. Bryan Holland took the second h a lf k ic k -o ff out to the M u stan g s’ 41 yard line and went to work as Bailey ran for nine and Eckman for six yards and a first down. A delay o f game penalty moved them back five. Palmer then went for tw o and H olland took a lateral pass for four. Bailey went for four more and on fourth dow n, went for eight yards and a first down at the 31. Eckman hit Dennis Kenny for 30 yards to the one where Bailey took it in for the touchdown and, after Josh Shank kicked the extra point, the Mustangs led 35-0 with 8:08 left in the third. The d efen se held again, but another intercep tion ended the M ustangs’ drive. Heppner got the ball back again at the Scio 44 after a short punt. A fter two plays lost three yards, Bailey went for 10 and Eck man went for five more and a first down at the 35 yard line. After a short gain by Bailey, Eckman dropped in a perfect pass to Holland at the goal line for a 32 yard touchdown. The two point conversion failed but the M ustangs had the gam e well in hand at 41-0 with YOU 8:41 left. The team s traded punts as the Mustangs were substituting freely. Ian Mur ray then recov ered a fumble at midfield but they could not move the ball and had to punt it away again. The Loggers then put together their only long ^rive o f the game, capped by a 20 yard touchdown run by Colter Mastenbrock w ith :05.2 left. Bailey finished with 192 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns with Eck man picking up 71 yards on eight carries and hit two of six passes for 62 yards and a touchdow n. Gentry was one for two for 65 yards and a touchdown. The defense was led by Kenny with 14 points. A ndre R auch added 13 points and Elguezabal had 10 points. Sam King had nine points and Bailey, Eck man, and Wacy Coil each had eight points. C lub members expressed appre ciation to Anne Morter and Laurel Cannon for work on the com m unity calen d ar and Becky Tullis for prepar ing the tax exempt status reports. Superintendent Browning will ask the ESD to prepare a sport program sample to use at basketball games. Business support ers will be printed on the backs of the programs. Jeri McElligott will check with tech teacher Lindsay Orem about correcting the typing errors on the web site by laws page. Arlynda Gates is still gathering information to complete a responsibil ity list for each o f the club committees. Dean Robinson rep o rted the th ree-p o in t shot board sponsored by Sandhollow Ag Products is nearly complete and w ill be in the gym by the start o f basketball season. The B ooster Club Christmas Tree Committee co n sists o f Anita O rem , Toby Garrett and Glenda Taylor. The Christmas pro gram for grades K-5 will be December 11. The annual Basket ball Bonanza Tournament will be November 30-De- cem ber 1 with both v ar sity and junior varsity boy’s and girl’s teams competing. W heatland Insurance and the Bank of Eastern Oregon will sponsor the hospital ity room for referees and coaches. Gates is in charge o f concessions for the week end.
