On August 21 at ap
proximately 6:54 p.m., the
Morrow County S h eriff’s
Office received a 911 call re
porting that a male juvenile
was firing shots from the
roof o f his house that nearly
hit their children playing in
the back yard. At 7:02 p.m.
Sheriff’s Office personnel
arrived at the scene and
determined that the shoot
ing had stopped and the
male subjects were off the
roof. Two officers began an
investigation to determine
where the shots came from
and who was responsible for
the shots being fired.
The in itial rep o rt
identified a white male sub
ject was shooting a rifle from
the top o f his residence. The
reporting party said the bul
lets were bouncing off the
ground near w here th eir
children were playing.
O fficers contacted
two male juvenile subjects
ages 14 and 15 and deter
mined that the 14 year old
male was shooting a .22
caliber rifle and had shot
the neighbors house several
times, shot a basketball back-
board in the same neighbor’s
yard several times, and had
endangered two small chil
dren that were playing in
the yard where bullets had
bounced off the ground near
their location. In addition,
both boys had been shooting
at rabbits and quail in a field
across the street. Two dead
rabbits were found that had
been placed in a different
neighbor’s yard. The 15 year
old was released to his par
ents and the 14 year old was
transported to The Dalles
and lodged in NORCOR
Youth Detention Facility.
A follow up inves
tigation was conducted and
additional checks o f the
neighborhood w ere co n
ducted to determine if ad
ditional damage was done
to other home ow ners.
No one was injured
from the rifle fire and addi
tional interviews are pend
